Just watched The Prestige a minute ago.. Saw it back in 2006 when it came out but completely forgot the plot aside from the fact that its about two angry magicians. It was grand for mild entertainment.. Nothing marvellously special but I'd say its worth a look for anyone who's not seen it. Maybe try find it to watch or download online instead of renting..

There Will Be Blood.
Very dark, very bizarre, but I liked it a lot... Especially the slow pacing; showing very long pauses during dialog and cutting very little in terms of menial actions. Loved the presentation and acting-- really distinct style.

Cloverfield

*spoilers*

I was quite surprised with the outcome of the movie, for the few months leading upto the release of the movie I always thought it was some terrorist attack movie to rival up the blood of the yanks...yet, when I found out it was about an alien attacking New York city, I was very excited since I'm a massive fan of alien/sci fi movies. The storyline is great and has a certain charm and familiarity to War of the Worlds, yet it doesn't have a self absorbed and self proclaimed messiah starring in the movie (Tom Cruise).

Great cinematography and use of the handy cam feature. At some points though you wanted to get a wider sense of what was going on, yet we were sort of fixed into position and could only see hints of what was going on when the camera man turned to the news on the tv, but having a wider glimpse of what was going on would have destroyed the whole atmosphere of the movie.

I think they should have focused more on the monster, then the cliche love story...but having said that, both stories incorporated the will to survive under incredible odds...yet in the end it was all for nothing since everyone dies and we don't find out what exactly happened to the alien/monster.

I felt abit empty when it ended because it just abruptly finishes with no explanation of what happened afterwards, yet I guess thats the charm of these kinds of movies, they keep you guessing.

I found it to be very enjoyable, if you haven't seen it, get it...its awesome to the max.

Yup', I liked Cloverfield too. Pretty immersive IMO, like a quake-like video game.

Batman Begins :
Well I hope the dark knight is better cuz' this one was far from what I expected it to be based on opinions I'd heard.
Probably one of the best super hero movie out there (not that it's difficult considering the mediocrity of most of 'em  ), but still... 8.4/10 on imdb ?
It's not worth 7 in my book. People said it was dark ? Well then maybe I should lower the luminosity of my screen. I hope the dark knight IS INDEED dark.

Gotham wasn't that great, the one in the anime serie was better. A monorail doesn't turn a matte painted city into Gotham.
Batman handing his car to the cop ? I'm no expert of the comic but I think this would hardly ever happen, maybe just because you're not supposed to know how to drive the batmobile in 5 seconds, and absolutely not how to shoot with it.
There's a kid in the movie. Batman meets him randomly. Then Holmes meets him randomly. Were they on a budget ? Ok there's one chance 1 million it may happen, but still...
The jokes here and there... Lame ! A cop talking about the batmobile : "I want the same car !", just during the chase when he's trying to save Holmes. This should be a tense part of the movie, and it's just a car chase, seen a hundred times, with lame jokes and 1900's houses with roofs made of concrete obviously.
The water into vapour thing. Shouldn't the people's organism be affected too ? (and the "oh, we lost a ion gun on a boat" thing was lame, just like that, out of nowhere, just so the plot could go on).
The prosecutor being killed in the harbour when looking for whatever, lame too. You see it coming a mile away.
And there's probably a ton of others...

Once again big production means no suspense, no tension, no mood, no atmosphere, but requires a pretty big suspension of disbelief (which I'm not really able to do anymore as you've probably guess).
And many, if not most of the acting wasn't that convincing. Bale included, maybe cuz' the more expressive parts are when he's got the mask, but still, the Wayne character wasn't great.

Still it was kind of enjoyable to see, at least when you don't think of it, but I'm desperately waiting for an action movie that you can watch with your brain ON.

I'd better expect the same from the Dark Knight so maybe I'll be surprised in a good way, than a bad way.

Scarface :
rrrrrRRrrRRRRR ! :chain:
Not bad. But I saw the godfather not so long ago (I'm catching up on supposedly good movies) and it doesn't really have anything that the godfather didn't have. It's just more over the top and has more bling :P
The chainsaw scene was cool cuz' unexpected. It dragged on a bit.

Rented Whisper this evening, only because it featured Josh Holloway from Lost. I've been on a bad movie streak lately and this movie sure didn't break it. A rip-off of Omen but not nearly as scary, predictable and simply not worth the time.

Perfume: The story of a murderer

Beware! Some kind-of spoilers. Kind of.

A piece of shit. That's a little harsh but I haven't seen worse movie in ages. Stupid plot with HUGE holes in it. I'm not sure what the director has had in mind but you can't relate to the main character at all, he's just really irritating and plain dumb.

In this movie people are having an orgy because a guy who murdered bunch of goodlooking girls and made a perfume of them puts on that perfume and does not get hanged because people who are trying to judge a massmurderer start a goddamn gangbang over a perfume.

I rest my case.
1,5/10 and not sure where those 1,5 points even came.

TDK had its flaws. Two-Face was rushed, the overall 'theme' was clunky and could have been employed better. Example: two ships at the end. Did anyone actually care? I sure as hell didn't.

But I liked the movie. Heath did a good job, I think I liked Nicholson's Joker better but I wouldn't reprimand anyone for disagreeing.

I saw the beginning of that movie last year but switched it off as it was too strange and a bit gross.
