I think often with artists, their aim is to represent their imagination as realisticly as possible. If they're just creating a photo-perfect facsimile of something everyone can see anyway it seem a bit futilie. But a photo-perfect representaiton to show the world what only previously existed inside their head would be extraordinary and could be argued as the next evolution in communication.

Of course if the brain ever becomes fully understood, and technology is developed to project the images, sounds and dreams our mind produces, it may come to a point where all one needs to do is hit record.
