Agreed. I haven't seen The Cave, but I dunno... as you said, I don't know how you can beat The Decent in disturbing cave movies!
It looked so lame in previews, but when I saw it, it was pretty creepy and unnerving. Just really suspenseful. I love a good horror/suspense movie 8)

I saw Orphan the other night. I was really on the fence about whether to see it or not, but some reviews said it was really good so I ended up giving a chance. I actually really liked it. Once again, suspense movie. I thought that whole evil-murderous-but innocent looking-child horror genre was SO played out, but this was still cool. There was a twist, so that changed it up a bit. I wasn't crazy about the drawn out, over the top ending, but whatever.. I enjoyed it anyway.

Zyprexa and I were just discussing how everyone has said that the huge thing that makes Orphan cool is the epic twist in it, and how you totally don't see it coming. And Orla just guessed what the twist is, using only the poster for a guide. Neither of us have seen the trailer because the movie isn't really being shown that much here so it hasn't been advertised. So now we definitely don't need to see it!

88 Minutes - Pacino is awesome. Really good movie! Just picked it up because it had Pacino in it but it turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable little movie.

Role Models - Thought this would be pretty damn funny and it didn't disappoint. I've always really liked Paul Rudd as well. Lots of cringeworthy moments throughout but overall very good!

The Proposal.
Went to see this with the daughter on a spur of the moment thing. Didn't really know what it was about or anything, we just picked it at random. Excellent choice! It was lovely and very funny. I've rarely heard an audience laugh so loudly. Yes, undoubtedly a 'chick flick' but the men in the audience were laughing just as hard as the ladies. I thought a man a few rows in front of us was going to pass out from laughter at one point.

And the dog! The white pup wins for the Cuteness Award of the Year. So if you're looking for some well-made light entertainment with a lot of good humour then this one's a definite win. :eirlys:

I'm not doubting you, but SPOILER ALERT!!!!

... based on a poster, you guessed that this supposedly sweet little girl was in fact evil; not just because she was an evil little girl, but because she has some weird genetic disease, she only appeared to be a child, but she was actually a violent psychopath that had been locked away in an asylum in the eastern Europe for years but had escaped and to find her next victim ...

I dunno man. Pretty wild guess.

No! Not at all that much detail. She just guessed she was a middle-aged evil dwarf as opposed to an evil little girl because she looked old in the poster.

The above post also contains a spoiler. :P

Well that's spot on. I didn't see it coming at all, It was nutz. Even if you do know the twist already, it's still pretty cool :) I'd recommend it - but I'm a sucker for a good horror movie...

I saw this movie last night called "Them." It's not a very inspired title lol but it was a good movie. Suspenseful and creepy - French, but set in Romania. A home invasion-style suspense movie; The movie seemed like 2 halves, and the first half was much more freaky... the second half lost some of it's steam. But I still liked it.

Gran Torino is awesome shit. Eastwood is amazing in it.

Watched A History of Violence last night. Good, but I was expecting more violence and the very end of it was meh. Final scene pretty anticlimactic.

And now I must go buy tickets for Inglourious Basterds because it's on really limited release here to accommodate for Disney's latest piece of musical faeces.

As you can see I sort of enjoyed Gran Torino. I agree that it's a little contrived and some of the acting from the non-pro actors is a little wooden, but it makes up for it by being genuine, very funny and pretty moving. And Eastwood is indeed the man.

Pet Sematary was on TV late last night. Managed to watch about 40 minutes while on my break at work. Great movie. I really like it. The flashback scene with Zelda dying still creeps me out to this day. God damn her!

Best film this year.

I can't wait to see that. The trailers and the short film it was based on have got me really excited.
Hopefully it will blow crap like Transformers 2 out of the water.

I just watched Inglourious Basterds and it was quality.
Very stylishly filmed and acted. Its violent but not as violent as I thought. Although when is happens its graphic.
There are some brilliant characters, especially the German 'jew hunter' and Brad Pitt's character.
Plus Tarantino decided to rewrite history.

All in all it was a good 2 and a half hours. It did get a little slow in places but that just allowed the acting and camerawork to really shine.
Better than Deathproof (thats not that hard to achieve) and up there with Kill Bill.
Pulp Fictions still rules though.

Last night I watched The Unborn (2008, Universal)

Director: David Goyer (Batman Begins, Blade)
Cast: Odette Yustman (Cloverfield), Gary Oldman (hell, you know him!)

Too skinny girl (you can see her assbones sticking out..) starts to see weird stuff, and odd things start
to happen around her.
She jogs too much, and doesn't eat through the whole movie, so I believe that the hallucinations and "odd things" happen only because she starves herself.
The plot is so jumpy that I can't properly explain it, so I'll just try my best from here on.
The souls, who are so evil, that cannot enter heaven, are doomed to roam the midlands of life and death.
Now here's the heroess, who has suffered from her mom leaving her when she was a kid.
More weird things happen, and again the red line gets lost, but like a runaway train the movie keeps going on.
I have to say, some special effects were quite awesome, and that's where the points for this movie come from.

Characters are very easily forgotten, and there are many things about the movie that just disturb me so much that
I don't know how little I like this.

Too bad they got Gary Oldman to do this, because it will not look too good in his resume.
If he needs one..

I am mildly dissapointed, but the effects were so believable that the score will rise because of them.

I give it 7/10

Enjoy (or not)!

On that note, the cinemas in Cork lately are so full of shit. There is a Disney film on at literally any hour that the cinema is open. I think there are something like ten disney films being shown at the moment, so Inglourious Basterds only gets nine showings a week. Fucking disgrace, the cinema was full when we went to see it yesterday.

Wouldn't it have been amazing if that was actually how the war went? :D

niklang wrote:It did get a little slow in places but that just allowed the acting and camerawork to really shine.

I did notice that but it didn't bother me because those kind of scenes (ie the first scene Jew hunter conversing with the dairy farmer and the cinema lady talking to the Jew hunter) left me so on edge and in suspense that it just added to the dramatic effect of it. It's good to see Tarantino trying his hand at intense dialogues and building characters to the extent that he is...

But the ass-kicking and violence was fucking cool too.
