I never finished watching it, but I still think one of the funniest parts was just one line: "Let us fuck!" I was lol'in for a while over that.

Saw Avatar last night. A lot of money pumped into CG shit and special effects. None into acting. None into writing/directing. James Cameron should never be allowed to write again--the shittiest Disney movies have more realistic emotion displayed by better acting and a plot that wasn't written by a 14-year-old enamored with fantasy novels.

I may be backlashing from the ridiculous hype this movie's gotten, but I really didn't see anything special. I thought it was pretty pitiful.

The Hangover and Inglorious Basterds.

Both awesome. Basterds wasn't what I was expecting but still ended up being good.

The Hangover was damn hilarious, from start to finish.

Haha... That missing tooth has to go close to winning best sight gag of the year.

I saw Inglourious Basterds recently also, and concur with the awesomeness rating. Tarantino does great dialogue and this was some of his best - maybe it was the setting and subject matter, giving him a focus that didn't allow him to wallow too much in "look at how clever I am" wankery. And I love WW2 stuff, so I was in heaven.

Oh yeah, and Christolph Waltz deserves many big, shiny golden awards for fucking with my mind as Colonel Landa. What a GENIUS piece of acting... most memorable villain since Ledger as the Joker and, in some ways imho, better.

Different kind of villain. Ledger played a complete psychopath far too well. Landa was just a conniving/cunning German officer who was almost too smart for his own good. Gotta love the end of the movie!

:!:

Yes! Thank you for reminding me that this movie exists! I must go rent it...

Definitely 10/10

Nice, it's such an underrated movie, good to see someone else here appreciates it. I also watched a marathon recently:

- Sin City
- V for Vendetta
- Watchmen

And something unrelated to the above: Amélie :)

The Fountain is one of the most beautifully constructed movies ever made. Ever watch the extras on the special edition? They show you how they made all those visuals...stunning. What is that method called again?? Something to do with miniatures...

Macrophotography I believe. :)

I've never seen anything else by him. This is it. I didn't dislike the film out of a need to be different, but because it just didn't do anything for me.

Watched three movies yesterday, first (and wife's choice...) was Spread and again some 90 minutes complete waste of time. But if you want to see Anne Heche naked this is it, nothing much really... Then Lesbian Vampire Killers British comedy and once again nothing special. One good point is that there is plenty of boobs here

Finally The Hangover and this was best of the lot by far, wery sure to find it's way to my film collection. Some priceless stuff here :D

Oh, just kidding. I did like Terminator and Terminator 2. Those were fun movies, but I suppose the expectations I had for each of them were a bit lower, so I was more willing to enjoy them. I still haven't seen Aliens or Titanic, so I can't comment. But still I think that Avatar was sort of a three-star movie at best. Two of those stars are for the "visual experience" or something similar. Eh, I'm just a bitter fuck I guess.

Anyway, I agree with whoever brought up The Fountain. I really liked that film. It wasn't perfect (the score was a little boring, to be honest), but I thought that overall it was a hell of a lot better than Aronofsky's earlier stuff.

It's okay, there are movies (usually Comedies) that I'm supposed to like but they just irritate me, I just think Avatar's general universal praise is going to create backlash from people who perhaps if it were just another movie didn't care for it, but due to all of the attention are pissed (correct me if I'm wrong, you fall into this category).

As far as the Fountain goes, I absolutely agree with your statement, I feel like The Fountain is where Aronofsky found the tone he was searching for but restrained himself a little bit for the better of the film.

I liked Requiem for a Dream, but it SCREAMED independent film-maker self importance which is one of the things I can't stand about generally decent independent cinema. And don't get me started on how Pi was great for a first effort but seriously, shut the fuck up, it does not change the universe despite having plenty of cool aspects about it.
