Survival of the Dead

yeah, it's not Romero's best but I enjoyed it. Some people will probably hate the fact that he has put some comedic moments into the movie but that did not bother me, actually made the movie even more likeable. And some people probably won't like that some of the gore effects are CGI. But they were done well anyways so that did not bother me either. I dug it.

The Fall
Pretty good, very stunning, visually. Full of rich textures and contrasts. Story sounded like it started out very beautifully in the writer's mind, but it ended up being pretty lackluster. All in all, an okay film.

Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels
A hell of a lot of fun. Very funny, a little cheesy, but extraordinarily likable. Very good entertainment.

Moon
Weird. Just very bizarre. I liked it quite a bit, though. It was refreshing, and wasn't at all what I expected. Excellent.

Dexter: Season 1
I know, technically it's not a movie, but I thought it's relevant. I checked it out because everyone I've talked to seemed to love it. So far it's very good, and I just can't get enough, so it looks like I'll have to pick up season 2.

I wish Kevin Spacey was my robot.

Especially if the robot comes with editable emoticons.

I've been catching up on one or two of those "you must watch this" films lately. We watched No Country For Old Men last night, and I very much enjoyed it. What a strong cast - Bardem was an ice cold mother with the best haircut ever. Another excellent bad guy - sweet. Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin could do the whole Texan thing in their sleep, and did it very well here. Kelly Macdonald was a shock - I knew of her but had no idea it was actually her while watching as her accent and whole performance as the fiesty trailer park girl was so strong.

It looked great, with that washed out late 70s/early 80s feel (I must have some connection with this period, probably as it's when I grew up!). Terrific ending - I laughed out loud at the unpredictability of it all. I won't give it away, but to see the Coens give the bird to some Hollywood conventions was fun to see. Having a hard time rating this one though, so I just won't. I'll just say it was a very, very interesting film that I found most entertaining to watch.

Even he probably couldn't save it from being a fail.

Yesterday marking the completion of my 46th Solar orbit - I decided to spoil myself and spend the day watching some of my all-time faves.

2001: A Space Odyssey of course. Loved this since I was 4 y.o. when it was released....

Image
Brilliant sequence, especially (for me) this bit. Just before Moonwatcher goes all RVP with the bone - so much stored potential energy, the fate of humanity like a coiled spring...and the destiny of an entire planet is about to be written.
(couldn't find this actual pic online, so I took a snap of my TV)

Monty Python's Life of Brian
Still the funniest thing I've ever seen. A critical roasting of left-wing politics, the application of Judeo-Christianity and the role of the individual in any society.

The Last of the Mohicans
A somewhat "re-tooling" of J.F. Cooper's literary classic. Stirring stuff, with D. D-L being paid by the mile. :D
I have to supress the urge to scalp half the neighbourhood after watching this.

Goodfellas
Made the Mob cooler'n Penguin shit. A pop culture tour from the 50's to the 80's showing life behind the headlines. Joe Pesci immortal.

Hmmm....that reminds me. SEE HERE

There is nothing on this earth finer than Daniel Day-Lewis in this movie. But aesthetics aside, it's my 2nd all-time favorite movie. I even have the original theatrical poster. 8)
