I'm trying to get a Robocop night going in the house, but we never all have work off at the same time that's not also a band practice night.

the 2nd one ain't too bad but Robocop 3...yikes. And the series...double yikes.

I might have to watch the first 2 Terminator movies soon again as well. Bought that big Endoskeleton skull version of Terminator 2 on Blu-ray months ago and didn't even check out the BD yet.

It's disturbing how well T2 (minus the CGI of course) holds up.

I really enjoy the first one also. And it's pre-Arnie the megastar which is nice. Actually, it's been a while since I've seen it so I might have to revisit.

(and I've seen T2 too many times to even make a call about this... all I know is I still love it).

The Reef - 7/10.
Australian shark film, and here it’s being advertised as “The Scariest Shark Movie Since Jaws”, but I find that statement incorrect. “The Scariest Shark Movie Since Jaws 2” might be more accurate. In fact, it has quite a bit in common with Jaws 2: a group of friends go joy-sailing on a dinghy in remote waters for a bit of adventure, their boat inevitably hits a snag, is flipped over and wrecked, and will probably sink over time. Even the climax of the film (mild spoiler) feels similar to Jaws 2, albeit with no Chief Brody to come to the rescue (end spoiler).
You might also find parallels to Open Water, and not just for the tag of being based on true events; in that the group after being capsized, decide to make a swim for it, in spite of the current as well as the unseen ocean creatures; better that than wait for help that may not come whilst they dehydrate and possibly drown. The leader of the group believes there is land about a few hour’s swim away (of course you cannot see said land), so it’s better than the alternative.
Only one guy is left behind, a deckhand with a fear of sharks. As this is a shark film, it isn’t long before he is vindicated. A big great white comes along and decides the four swimmers might make a tasty lunch. Before I go any further, no shark makes an appearance for about half the film; plenty of time to get you emotionally invested in the characters. In my opinion, most of that time was not put to good use. The two leads I suppose you care more about, but for the most part, you’re waiting for the chomping to commence.
There’s no lack of atmosphere, though it does run hot and cold. Dialogue goes as you’d expect in a shark movie: “What’s that? We’re gonna die! I love you. Stay together! There it is! What’s that?! There it is again! FUUUUU—*gloop*”
In its favor, all sharks seen in this movie come from real shark footage. Not gargantuan sized whites, but still, the film’s fish is one that could chew you up without much effort.
Overall, it lacks the suspense of Open Water, but does have more thrills. And it’s not a cartoon like Deep Blue Sea or any of the other Jaws rip-offs that have been released in the last couple of decades. Worth seeing as long as your expectations aren’t too high.

First Death Race 2 and what a steaming pile of turd it was... I liked Luke Goss in Blade 2 and Hellboy 2 but here he is totally lost, not his fault though. Oh, it's prequel and everything is explained for fuck sake. Then it was time for Paranormal Activity 2 which is prequel also, except for the last 5 minutes where things get sequel and almost everything is explained for fuck sake...

Verdict...? Two times pile of steaming turd, please look something else for entertainment.

Memento Just incredible. I had heard nothing but good about it, and it's easy to see why everyone noticed Nolan's talent after this. I'm still trying to figure it all out, which will probably never happen...

Public Enemies Johnny Depp is unsurprisingly excellent, and Marion whatshername is a good match. The ending made me smile. Only gripe is with Bale's character. It's way too wooden and unmotivated.

Just watched "Seven" with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. Loved it. The chemistry between the two detectives they play was hectic but brilliant. I have to say though, Morgan Freeman by far wins over with performance and the creation of a kind, lonely old man. The thrills kept on coming too. Lots of gasp moments, especially in the ending.

All three movies mentioned in the last two posts are amongst some of my favourites. Se7en is an absolutely brilliant film..

Went to see Sucker Punch yesterday. This movie was basically just about tits and ass and the kick-ass soundtrack, that was it. Upon evaluation afterwards, the missus remarked "You probably would've been better off sitting at home for an hour and a half with the soundtrack blaring as you look at pictures of the cast members.. At least then you could have a few wanks.", and that is what I would now recommend to everyone who thinks about seeing that film.

The fucked up thing about Suckerpunch is that Zach Snyder directed an R rated film and allowed it to be cut down to a (hard) PG-13 to be "more accessible" to teenagers; apparently, cut footage included bits that made the storyline stronger, which explains why all the reviews I've seen (only a few, trying not to spoil myself) have been noting lack of story with abundant substance. The tagline is "You will be unprepared!" I was certainly unprepared for that.
Will still see it when it comes out; hell, will even see eventual director's cut as well just for comparison's sake.

I really don't like Zack Snyder films as a rule, outside of the Dawn of the Dead remake. Both 300 and Watchmen thoroughly were underwhelming (in Watchmen's case, there really wasn't much that could be done. Alan Moore and Terry Gilliam were right, it's not filmable.) It's not that he technically makes bad movies, it's that he arrogantly makes terrible choices and then defends them to the death (i.e. the music in Watchmen)

Suckerpunch just looks and by all accounts was shit, unless you want pretty things to stare at. Frankly, that kind of look doesn't even really seem that attractive to me. And for the effects? There are a million movies that you could watch for that reason and there will be more.

Spend some time on character development and get back to me.

I want to see Sucker Punch not for character development or story, but for Snyder's trademark arty, slo-mo violence. As long as I go "What the fuck?", I'll be happy.
It looks like it appeals to our inner spotty teenager, who likes costumes which don't fit, WW1 zombie cyborg Nazis (c'mon guys, who doesn't want to see that?) and heavily post-processed film techniques.

Yeah.

You misunderstand. These kind of films can be done well, like Kick-Ass, but Snyder pretty much has stuck to his format ever since 300, and while these films are marginally better than say a Transformers 2 (sorry Lars.), they're still pointless and about as cartoonish as the Speed Racer movie.

I know it's pointless to try and hope for another Die Hard (as in, the first one, not another sequel), but I'm hoping with our desire for the excess we could at least get another Commando in our lives.

oh no need to be sorry...Transformers 2 sucks dog balls. I just bought it because it was cheap, the special effects are neat and I grew up watching the original Transformers cartoon show, so nostalgia plays a role too. But yeah, as a movie on its own it stinks worse than cat poop.
I'm looking forward to the third one though. Not that I have any great expectations after Transformers 2.

pretty badass! Really enjoyed that one. It's somewhere between Gran Torino and Taken and Michael Caine kicks ass in this one! Pretty intense stuff!

Mortal Kombat & Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113855/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119707/

both are pretty darn bad but I have a soft spot for the first one. Call it a guilty pleasure but I kinda dig it. And after I re-watched the second one yesterday I didn't think it was as bad as I remembered either. OK, the special effects, acting and dialogues are horrible but...well, yeah it is pretty horrible. But it's not Street Fighter or Mario Bros. either!

Funny story....when Mortal Kombat Annihilation was released on VHS I DID rent it and HATED it...but then I kinda forgot to take it back and I eventually had to pay 75 Deutsche Mark (around 40 bucks) for it. Who can say about himself that he paid that much money just because he wanted to see MK2?

Well, I can.
