WHAAAAAAAAAAAT. You can't like Christian Bale without seeing American Psycho! It isn't even that violent, really. His portrayal of Bateman is absolutely genius and probably my favourite movie character of all time. Loses out on favourite character of all time ever to the mighty Zapp Brannigan.

Watched Repo Men last night. Seen it before and didn't understand why it did so poorly when it was released last year, and watching it again just made me wonder why even more. It's a thoroughly enjoyable film and I seriously don't get why it flopped. Law and Whittaker are great in it... Just gonna start watching Harry Brown now in a minute cos if Lars praises summat it's usually pretty damn good. :D

Oh, and I did watch that re-do of Robin Hood and it was crap. Nothing happened for pretty much the whole thing and it was all just incredibly drawn out and lacked any sort of depth whatsoever. Sat there for the whole time wondering when I was going to think it was better than the Disney version of Robin Hood, and it just never happened. So what this means is that a fox > Russell Crowe.

I'm looking forward to hear what you think. Maybe you won't like it all that much but I thought it was badass.

yesterday I watched
Beavis and Butt-Head do America
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115641/
god I love this movie. And I loved the series and hopefully I'll be able to see the new B and B episodes which should be aired this summer. It's just totally mindless fun!

The Ruins
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0963794/
it was OK, I guess. Nothing special. Some pretty gruesome gore scenes can be seen in this movie but other than that there's not much that would make me want to recommend it. But if you don't know what to watch then renting it would be OK, I guess.

Repo Men got some poisonous PR early on. I first heard of it because of the plot similarities to Repo! The Genetic Opera. Then I heard the director of the latter saying something about how the two were in production at the same time and there was some attempted crew poaching. So ages before Repo Men even got anywhere near theaters, there was a campaign to boycott the film. Honestly, only people who wanted to score points with what would be considered goths back when I was a teenager would care about such things on a concious level. However, scream "RIP-OFF" enough places and it could catch on.
Part of me wonders what would've happened if the Internet had been around at the time of Rocky Horror's release. There were some staging similarities between that and the earlier film, Phantom of the Paradise. The rumors of stealing a few ideas aren't helped by the fact that the actress who played Janet Weiss in the semi-sequel Shock Treatment was also in Phantom. Ah well.

Fucking loved it! Tad on the unrealistic side but when it's that entertaining I'll let it slide. Michael Caine is one bad mothafucka :D

Battle: Los Angeles
really enjoyed it. No idea what people are bitching about. I was worried that it could be a train wreck like Skyline or a horrible cheese fest like Independence Day but it was just what I expected. Almost non-stop action and war. It's an alien invasion flick and I don't expect any great storyline in a movie like that, nor do I expect any character development...no, I wanna see human beings and aliens shooting the shit out of each other. There's going to be people that will start argumenting with 'but District 9 was...'. Blah blah blah...District 9 was not an Alien Invasion movie, the aliens did not attack in that movie. It's about social criticism and yeah, it's an awesome flick but you can hardly compare District 9 with an alien 'invasion' movie. Yeah, Battle: L.A. to some people might look like a video game rather than a movie but that's perfectly fine to me as that is what I was hoping for. A battle. Something that's plausible. No president entering a jet and fighting aliens, no computer virus that somehow manages to defeat them, no Will Smith, no bubble gum soap opera dialogue...just good old fashioned ass kicking.

I just think we may be at a critical mass of those kind of style over substance films. There's nothing wrong with an occasional mindless flick, but there's week after week of sensory overload at this point. Battle for LA was fine, I just think it came out past the point of folks caring anymore, and Sucker Punch (which I thought was FAR FAAAAR worse) is taking some of that heat as well.

We'll see, since summer looms.

well, being tired of mindless flicks is one thing but it seems like whenever a movie isn't the most mind blowing mindfuck ever people consider it to be shitty. Reading some of the reviews on imdb just makes me shake my head when I see that the overwealming majority gave Battle L.A. 1 out of 10 stars and then the main argument is that the camera is too shakey. Guess I don't see how that would make a movie the shittiest movie ever. Such people should be forced to watch Street Fighter: The Movie 5 times in a row and then Skyline 10 times in a row.

Sucker Punch Not bad, but still disappointing. The action sequences saved it.

The Departed Best movie I've seen in ages. Scorsese is the man.
