Leechmaster wrote:My two cents on Fallout - I thought the bugs in New Vegas were greatly exaggerated. It froze on me a few times, but the auto-save function prevents any major loss of progress, really. There is occasional popping and some texture fails (feet through floors, frustrating climbs over mountains only to find there's an invisible wall 2 feet from your destination, etc) but they just don't weigh in enough negativity to take away from an otherwise outstanding game. The faction aspect was a great addition, as well as the wide array of endings. The sheer quantity of side quests is staggering and the companions don't disappear on you like they did in 3 either...

No, the companions do the opposite; they show up when you didn't bring them! Especially in Vault 22, I believe. HOLY COW! But, yeah, one of my top 5 favorite games ever. One that I HATE? Borderlands. Fuck. That.

I quite liked Borderlands, its not a deep game, but its great coop fun.

Back to Fallout, i had the game freeze, and had to power on the playstation about 5-6 times in about 30 hours of gameplay.
Small freezes that go away happen about every hour of play.
Graphic bugs are present, texture issues mostly, as was noted above.

But indeed, the changes from Fallout 3 make New Vegas a great game. They really improved on the game in lots of ways.
I would definatly recommend the game, the frustration the bugs bring doesnt outweigh the awesomeness of this game, and it seems the bugs affect people differently, probably based on console models and disk space and such.

I've played way too much Borderlands. They have a lot of new content out that I still haven't played too, so that's one game I can go back to any time.

I haven't played much New Vegas, even though I was waiting to buy it as soon as it was released. I didn't care for Borderlands, but I played it alone, mostly. I didn't find it fun at all. Metro 2033 is a beautiful game! I get stuck fairly often, unsure of exactly how I am supposed to move forward, but it's fun and very visually pleasing.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is insanely fun....but can also be very frustrating. Ahh, good old Nintendo frustration! And I'm still playing the shit out of Deadly Premonition. It gets better and better. Fuck graphics...this game is sweet the way it is!

Portal speedrun in less than nine and a half minutes, using a whole bunch of glitches and whatnot. It has a very high 'lolwut' content...

Also, I'd recommend not waiting for the final credits song.

Mass Effect 3 has been announced...yay! Can't wait...but it will be a long wait anyways!
The new Resistance 3 trailer looks sweet too. If that is actual gameplay footage from the game then R3 will look amazing.
Prototype 2 should be fun too. I loved the first one, totally over the top and part 2 should be too!
2011 will kick ass! :D

I got Portal for free on Steam... maybe it was when I bought HL2... either way Portal 2 is on the way and I'll wait for that. And feed my WoW addiction in the meantime.

Yup, there's couple of places when it's hard to see where to go in Metro, level design isn't that stellar it seems. Still, game was nice enough to make me buy a book it's based on - can't go wrong with Russian post-apoc literature. I think.

^ I cannot find that book over here. Guess an online order is what I'll have to do. Is it good though?

Spike TV's Video Game Awards had some tasty announcements... My favourite of which was definitely Hugo Strange and the new Arkham City trailer...

Great trailer, but then no gameplay showed, it was the same thing with the SSX trailer.
Do you think this lends creadit to Hugo Strange being the villain in the next Batman movie?

Dunno yet, have it scheduled for reading after completion of Hyperion saga. Heard it's decent.

so what are everyone's games of the year? And which games disappointed you?

my personal favorites were
Mass Effect 2
Red Dead Redemption
Dead Rising 2
Deadly Premonition (no shit)
God of War 3
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Fable 3 (the patched version)

have not finished Heavy Rain

my personal disappointments:
Alan Wake (far too linear, didn't like the characters too much, the story was a bit all over the place, in retrospect just not what I expected)
Mafia 2 (also far too linear, no side missions, nothing to do in the open world and too short)
Singularity (the time manipulation could have been done much better...you can only really use it when the game wants you to. Despite the 3 different endings the game doesn't really have much replay value)

Heavy Rain. Glorious. I also liked Mass Effect 2, but I didn't finish it (I got to the suicide mission and chickened out), God of War 3 was INCREDIBLE, really fed my ultraviolent side. I've been playing New Vegas, now, and I think it's better than Fallout 3. And I looooved Fallout 3.
