playing Black Ops right now. Yeah, it's Call of Duty...and there's the usual shocking scenes that were built in to cause controversy *YAWN*. It's pretty good though. More diversity than usual. But as usual it kind of sucks that the single player campaign is as short as it is, especially since a lot of time gets wasted with blabbing and cut scenes. But yeah, it's pretty cool. And there's several zombie modes, for a zombie addict like me that is a wonderful thing!

Sony dropped the ball with the PSP, big time. Soooo much potential, completely wasted.

I have to agree. This new one looks pretty much exactly the same, apart from obvious hardware upgrades and what, from that video, I can only assume to be some pretty good visuals for a handheld, it doesn't seem to offer much. Of course, you are screaming, ONLY hardware upgrades? That's like the biggest thing! Well sure, you can have some good hardware but no one is going to buy this new PSP if it doesn't do much more than the old one. I don't know anyone who still uses their PSP, I think they sold well when they were first released/after the price dropped a bit when they were still the new hot thing, but I think it was pretty much a fad.
3DS is a mixed bag. Sure, the idea of 3D gaming is...gimmicky. An added bonus, sure, but not a good enough reason to buy a whole new console. I don't see much in the future of 3D games, movies, anything. It hurts your eyes after awhile and I find it can be hard to focus. Sure, it's kinda cool, but it's also overrated. However, I think the 3DS has massive potential in terms of 3D gaming (as in modeling, compare 2D graphics of game boy to 3D in N64) coming to a handheld. I mean yeah, I'm pretty sure PSP did a lot of 3D stuff too, and the DS dabbled in it here and there, but especially in the DS, the 3D graphics were terrible. How many of you would like to play good ol' Mario Kart, a la N64 with your analog stick and decent 3D models, on a portable scale. I think Nintendo has this in the bag. Sure, handhelds aren't just for children anymore, but I think serious gamers will ditch the DS for an Xbox, 3DS will be great for casual games and puzzles, and less serious RPG's like Zelda, but I don't really think anyone wants to play Heavy Rain on a handheld.

what bothers me about the new PSP is that you probably cannot play old PSP games on it as the new one uses some type of USB card device for games. I think it was a silly decision by Sony to remove the PS2 compatibility from the PS3 (the 60 GB version excluded) and it was even more silly to release the PSP GO that didn't have a UMD drive and made it impossible to play your old games on it. I don't know why Sony always comes up with such stupid ideas but it seems like they have made a lot of bad decisions for years now. No idea if the new 3DS will play old DS games but if it doesn't then Nintendo made a big mistake too in that regard. The Wii plays Gamecube games though so maybe it's the same with the 3DS.
in terms of improvements...yeah, the new PSP doesn't offer much other than better hardware but I don't think there's much more you can do with a handheld console. I guess innovations are limited in that regard due to the limitation of it just being a handheld console. And if you think about it...people who had an Xbox bought an Xbox 360 because of the better graphics. Same goes for the PS3 (even if that plays Blu Rays but I don't think people bought it for that reason). Yeah, the Wii had this fancy new control system which was innovative but at the same time it gave a lot of developers a headache, Wii versions of popular multi-platform titles usually sucked dog balls and the controls certainly didn't work for every game. I'm thinking of my recent attempts to play Goldeneye with the Wii controls...it's atrocious. Thank goodness for the classic controller.
I'd agree that no one would like to play Heavy Rain on a handheld console. But I'd sure as hell would enjoy playing Red Dead Redemption or Mass Effect on a handheld console, that's for sure!

I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that 3DS will be backwards compatible with all DS software including DS and DSi titles. Before that, I didn't even know DSi had it's own exclusive titles, haha.
I'd play Red Dead Redemption on a freaking keychain if it were possible. I can imagine a game like that being really good as a portable title.
And totally right about Wii controls. They have some gems, like using the remote with the optional and pretty much unnecessary Wii Zapper works pretty well for the cost, considering you might pay $30 if you want to use the zapper, however if you were to buy a Time Crisis kit with light guns for PS2 or whatever, you'd probably pay a bomb. But for a lot of ports especially, it just doesn't work. Moreso when they try to incorporate the gyro/motion sensing qualities into it just because they can. The amount of games I've played where you use the nunchuck and play the game with normal controls like you would on say Xbox, but then they attach some stupid thing like shaking the remote to attack which just seems out of place, like button mashing without the buttons. Too many of the cheaper, less anticipated games seem to have been developed just to exploit the gimmickiness of the console.
Then there are more thought out games like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, which you use the nunchuck to move and point the remote to aim a flashlight. The idea had so much potential. I think the general rule is, big developers will put more thought into that sort of thing than small-time guys who want to just get it out there and make a quick buck.

got my copy of Dead Space 2 today, yay...I think I'll finish Black Ops on Veteran difficulty first though.
and I agree on the Wii games statement. If the controls are done right they are fun. Shattered Memories is one of the games I still have to pick up.
Speaking of Silent Hill...the new one, Downpour, looks awesome. I hope that it'll turn out well and won't be as bad as Homecoming was.

Dead Space 2 tops the first game in every possible way. It's like Mass Effect 2 in the fact that it is just so much better.
I love how it's a constant progression through the chapters, instead of that stupid tram from the first game. I mean, I guess given the setting of the first one it worked. But I'm definitely glad they went with the Half Life style progression, no fast transport to your next chapter.
Absolutely loving it.

sounds good. Can't wait to play it once I'm done beating Black Ops on Veteran difficulty. It's pretty hard but very doable. I'd say it's Modern Warfare 1 difficult but not as hard as World at War.
Dead Space 2 looks so fuckin good, but I haven't played the first one.
Should I?

Hey guys, been away for a couple of months as we've moved house an had major ISP issues... the less said the better really!
Good to be back.
In those couple of months I've clambered aboard the Mass Effect bandwagon. Finished 1 and now about 20 hours into 2. I really enjoyed the first game, but the sequel is so lovely it's just silly.

Yes. If you want to get into the story, yes you should.
On another note, the Crysis 2 MP demo was pretty impressive...graphically. The game play is just not as tight as the CoD games, which is kind of surprising. Of course, on a PC it would be different. The controls on xbox just feel kind of stiff, but they work. I was definitely most impressed by the graphics the 360 could pump out while still running rather smooth. The single player will absolutely shine in that game!
I also heard they patched Black Ops a bit, making it so if you down someone to last stand and someone else finishes them, you get the kill! This is great news
