The (Reluctant) Infidel.
Very funny and poignant, and manages to juggle the issues of Judaism vs Islam in a way that's critical yet respectful of both at the same time (all with sardonic British humor to keep things interesting). This should be Omid Djalili's defining role.

I wish Sam Raimi was making movies like this all the time still.

I really liked that movie... and I've thought that Alison Lohman is absolutely gawjus since I was about ten. :P

Watched Rango the other night and was utterly blown away by how good it was. I thought it'd be alright but it turned out to be the best animated movie I've seen in years.. Great story, the animation is class and the voice acting was top notch. It's probably one of my favourite Westerns of all time now!

the gypsy was fucking wicked, also you've made me want to watch rango.

how do you know - i guess my love for paul rudd (and partly owen wilson) is greater than my colossal hatred for reese witherspoon.

I holeheartedly agree! And it's also the best looking movie I have seen so far on Blu-ray. Totally blew my mind.

The Whisperer in Darkness - not bad, not great. its an adaptation of an HP Lovecraft short-story.

Kill List - pretty good. really tense, pretty violent too. the ending sucks but whatever.

Alps - Awesome. So weird and so funny. It's about an underground business where actors fill in for recently deceased people until those that hired them are finished grieving.

Blood Creek. It was ok, although the black & white first act was the most interesting part. Michael Fassbender plays a good Nazi occultist, though most of the time he's under make up that's like a cross between Wishmaster and Spawn. The CG effects were pretty bad, but the make up and blood effects were great. Story and acting otherwise ordinary, though it had a good concept, and Joel Schumacher's aesthetic direction was decent.

Saw Contagion over the weekend. Kinda ho-hum. I believe I've seen it before, though.

It used to be called "Outbreak". :)

Death at a Funeral - Wasn't expecting a whole lot from this and basically only watched it because it has Peter Dinklage and I FACKIN LOVE THE DINKLAGE but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was! Some seriously excellent cringeworthy comedy... I then tried to watch the American version and it just wasn't the same at all, disappointingly. I just loved the actors in the English one to bits... Especially Peter Vaughan as Uncle Alfie. He was brilliant. "EVERYTHING'S SO FUCKING GREEN"

Having given Rango a try the other night and loving it, I was recommended to watch Megamind by the same person and once again they came up trumps. I usually can't stand Will Ferrell but he's a surprisingly good voice actor! It had a great cast with David Cross and Brad Pitt.. Jonah Hill remains one of the most annoying actors alive even in animated form but that didn't put too much of a dampener on an otherwise really good story.

i was expecting something a little darker and more ambiguous, but instead i got a borderline kitschy "whimsical mysterious doer of good" kind of thing. i wanted to like it, but... eh....

i'm way too cynical to be talking about anything other than mid-era ingmar bergman though.

The Dinklage must be worshipped!

DAAF is hilarious and I refuse to watch the US remake because I know it'll make me cry.

Senna

Excellent documentary and a very good reminder why I remember him as one of my big childhood heroes, even though I didn't follow F1 that much at those ages. It offers a great insight into the F1 culture of the 80's and early 90's as well. I'd recommend it to anyone who has any slight interest in the sport.

Restless - Never know what to expect from Gus Van Sant. About a boy who meets and falls in love with a girl, only she's a cancer patient with two years left to live. It tries to be a quirky film but it feels forced IMO. I was bored. Restless even.

Yakuza Weapon - Saw this expecting a Japanese gore film in the vain of 'Machine Girl' or 'Tokyo Gore Police'. What I got instead was a ridiculously over-the-top, over-acted and unengaging film. The humor relies on gratuity, not thoughtfulness. Meh.

Face to Face - This was a great Australian film about a guy that loses his job and drives into his bosses Jaguar in a fit of anger. The film is about a community conference that's held to try to solve the case outside of court. It's a very intense 89 minutes on the screen.

An Animated Extravaganza - Animated-shorts package. Solid viewing. I don't really see a lot of short films so it was nice to see some. A lot of these shorts were on the darker or morbid side, though.

George the Hedgehog - Polish film about an animated hedgehog that drinks beer and fornicates with human females. Very funny, but there was lots of cultural humor that went over my head. My Polish-born friend laughed at a lot of things that I didn't even realize were supposed to be jokes.

Yeah, it will. Dinklage being in it again was the only good thing I saw for the while that I could bear to watch it! Twas awful.
