I'm trying to learn to play trains with guitar. The only problem is the "Always the summers are..."-part. There's no way I can sing that high :(

If you don't like calm music very much, try In Absentia, then Deadwing. If you can appreciate calm music, try Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream.

Most of their older stuff is calm, and sometimes very experimental (and not so good.) But mostly you can't go wrong with these guys.

Well yes, but not as calm as LS and SD. In Absentia and Deadwing are quite a bit heavier; just not nearly as heavy as your average metal band.

Give it an original twist and do a death scream instead!! Make it your own, rather than trying to produce an exact copy.

In Absentia and the re-release of Stupid Dream. By far their two best albums. In Absentia is probably their highpoint, with "Blackest Eyes", "Trains", "The Sound of Muzak" and "Heart Attack In A Layby" being the high points of the album, although they're all quite amazing. Steven Wilson, like Dev and Mikael Ã…kerfeldt, seems to be one of those rare musicians who is incapable of writing a bad song.

In response to a previous statement, Lazarus rules. The hook into the chorus is so memorable it's almost like I'd heard before I'd heard it, if that makes sense.

I feel so behind. I still haven't given this band a shot. I've heard Even Less and that is a good song.

Where should I start?

since Even Less was your first taste and you liked it, give 'Stupid Dream' a shot....and then go from there :)

which I would recommend to everyone who pre-judged Porcupine Tree just because of Deadwing ;)
