Finished Portal 2. Great game, if you enjoyed the first you'll enjoy this just as much. Some really nice visuals compared to the very basic nature of the original. Kinda disappointed that there were no special time/portals/steps challenges or advanced/harder versions like in the first, and that you can't skip straight to a test chamber (You can skip to chapters though like in the original) which would have been good since there's a lot more walking etc between test chambers and some of them can be quite tricky/lengthy to complete, which makes getting that sought-after achievement that little bit more painstaking. But yes, it is a really funny game and there are some nifty easter eggs too. Haven't tried co-op yet (why am I reviewing this when it's probably the game's main selling point  ) but I'll convince my brother to give it a shot tomorrow. You can co-op online too, which I didn't know about til I bought it, I don't have XBL though so that's a little sucky.

Went on Amazon yesterday (never ends well, usually... :P) and found Mortal Kombat for €30 and Portal 2 for €35. Of course, I immediately caved and bought both. WINNING.

Saw a 20 minute one on Gamespot featuring every character. Ridiculously brutal game, I'll probably end up with it soon.

seriously, do it. There's sooooo much content in this game, it's amazing. The challenge tower alone would be worth the money. The challenges are freaking hard but fun! And the fatalities are all awesome indeed. There's even a fatality training mode where you can just perform fatalities for the sake of doing it

"Limbo" on XBL is VERY nice. Yes, it's short....but it's so damn gooooooood.

Is that the silhouette one with the kid that you're trying to keep from dying in ridiculously brutal ways? Cause I keep meaning to check that out.

James Cameron is saying that video games will push 3d into mainstream in about 2 years.
Having just watched my first 3d movie on a tv, I have major doubts about this. While the 3d made the movie look like a video game alot of time, the effect often would kinda blur the picture, and the video quality seemed to be very inconsistent.
Also the glasses we're quite heavy, so much so that I removed my normal glasses and went with my contact lenses.

And the 3DS has not met sales expectations either.
Also on the Nintendo front, expect a new console in 2012, but no other details seem to have emerged so far.

They've only sold just over 3 million. BOO HOO. The real reason their sales expectations are not met is that they've been putting everything into R & D for the last few years, and now they're finally starting to see any returns (still in the red obviously) on said R & D. They'll be fine. They just need to make decent games.

Well their sales expectation was 4 millions.
I can see the killer games argument as well, apparently the good games are some time away still.
Also the earthquake in Japan put a damper on sales too.

But the question was mostly about gaming in 3d in general, as in the DS, but also xbox and playstation.

There's hardly been a marketing push in the States, I wouldn't be surprised come the holidays that we're inundated with 3DS materials. And yeah, the quake's going to affect it a bit. I do still think 3D's a gimmick, and not something I can do for long stretches, but I'm still incredibly impressed with the hardware. That said, I think people might be a little fatigued, at least in terms of televisions/consoles, about being forced to get yet another set.

I'm far more interested in the 3DS than the NGP for example, because the NGP doesn't really deliver an experience that I couldn't have at home, especially since I'm almost 100% positive that the NGP won't be nearly as open as the PSP for the things that actually made the PSP cool.

And that's also not taking into the account the smartphone encroachment on portable gaming (and most of it blows, but eh, what can you do?), so we'll see how this all plays out.
