I'll elaborate further when sober, but I went movie-hopping to avoid the heat today. Saw the Amazing Spider-Man, which was entirely unnecessary but was otherwise decent. I didn't like how the film jumped around so much in some places, the cuts weren't exactly logical.

Saw Prometheus. I fucking loved it. What a strange feeling that film gives you, especially knowing that things will not go well for that crew.

Moonrise Kingdom, however, far outshined everything. I might have been too able to identify with it, but it speaks a truth about young feelings of affection in a way that's pure, beautiful, and just honest. I wept a bit, as I am wont to do. I also laughed hard.

Anyway.

I wanna see all 3 of them. The Amazing Spider-Man because I've always loved Spider-Man. Prometheus because a) I'm riding on a big ole Sci-Fi wave right now and b) because it's Ridley Scott's first Sci-Fi flick in ages and the trailers look awesome and last but not least c) because a lot of people seem to dislike it which probably means I'll like it a lot. And Moonrise Kingdom because the Murray/Norton/Keitel combo just has to work.

watched a bunch of flicks again:

The first movie I watched was Predators. For a sequel to a franchise that was slaughtered by the AvP flicks it's doing a pretty good job in my opinion. It tries to be somewhat oldschool while staying believable and I like that combination. It's nothing groundbreaking and I wish Fishburne's role had been a better one but other than that it was enjoyable, mindless entertainment.

Contact was awesome as usual. The improved picture quality on Blu-ray of course makes it even greater eye candy. I always liked Jodie Foster and this is one of her best roles for sure. Still don't understand why so many people hated the whole 'first contact' scene. I think it makes sense and never felt like a cop-out to me. Oh well. Different strokes for different folks.

Logan's Run was really good too as usual and fun to watch on Blu-ray. It looked pretty damn good for a 36 year old movie. And the movie itself was terrific too. If you like movies like 'Equilibrium' then this one's a definite must-see. But of course you got to expect a little bit of good old 70's cheese!

And last but not least: Children of Men. Just can't ever get tired of this one. It's certainly one of the best Sci-Fi flicks of our generation and a definite 10/10 for me.

^Logan's Run... always enjoyable. Children of Men.. really did not like it. Could not take it seriously and there were too many plot holes with the whole mass infertility thing for me to find it believable at all.

I just really couldn't get into it at all. I like Contact though. :) And Predators is enjoyable.

I have no money until July 19 when I get paid. But I know what I'm gonna see when that date comes around, and it ain't Spiderman or Ted (I'll get around to them eventually).

Watched Taxi Driver on Blu-Ray last night. Excellent transfer, and still such a good film.

Read this? Interesting write up on Prometheus:

Also, I concur on Taxi Driver. A classic in every sense.

Oh, and watched Contraband on blu ray recently - that was a fun little bit of mindless fluff. I had to turn my old Customs officer brain off to ignore all the inaccuracies but that's a personal thing.

AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE TED!

American Warship Actually it says American Battleship on BD cover and as I hastily picked it up from rentals shelve I thought that this was the other battleship movie ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1440129/ ). Well, it's not and boy what total crap this is... Don't know if actual Battleship is as bad but at least it looks like it's done with some money, this looks just embarrassing. And it's not bad in good way either.

Safe House Pretty basic action movie this one, nothing new or original but solid performer and decent entertainment.

TV/Documentary/Sort of movie-thing Destination Doha via Youtube.

Basically 70's long distance/oldskool/inter-continental/desert truck driving porn.
My dad's haulage company (years before he got caught out for being a total fucking moron) used to pull Astran trailers into Yugoslavia to be transhipped to other drivers for the middle east. Nice to hear some of the same sounds/see some of the same sights that I did when I was young (albeit starting travelling ten years after this was made, still all the shots of western Europe look surprisingly similar). After the early to mid nineties, it all stopped being this brutal and now all young truckers over here are pussies who whine like women and make a phonecall to get someone else to change a tyre instead of making any effort themselves.
We got to take one of the new 2007 Astran trailers out last year. Shame it was only for a load of aggregate to Feltham. Still felt good, man. 8)

/Nostalgia and rubbish.
Yes, I am a nerd, but I fucking love the sound of a Scania 140 V8 in the morning...Or any other time of day.;)
