most recently I watched Forbidden Planet, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Doomsday, Independence Day, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and last but not least...Metropolis.
Forbidden Planet was a lot of fun to watch and looked great on Blu-ray. It's pretty weird and it makes you wonder what kind of stuff they were smoking back then but from a technical standpoint it's VERY impressive, considering it's already 56 years old.
A.I. was lovely as usual. I don't really understand why this movie received so much negative criticism. I think it's one of Spielberg's greatest achievements. I think most people complain about the "aliens" at the end in the movie. Which is funny because there are no aliens in this movie.
Doomsday is a nice and mindless homage to the Mad Max movies and to 80's action flicks in general. Not the most original movie ever but it's fun if you accept it for what it is.
Independence Day certainly does not work as well as it did in the 90's. Boy oh boy. The final hour of that movie. Boy oh boy. Makes you want to throw your flatscreen out of the window and then elbow drop it.
Turtles was a lot of fun to watch. Yeah, it's silly and if you've never been a fan of the cartoon show then you'd probably hate the movie. But I loved it. Nostalgia at its finest.
Metropolis was the best out of them all though. I recently bought the complete and restored edition of the movie on Blu-ray and wow, it's a whole different movie now. Much more complex. And the Murnau Stiftung did a great job restoring all the additional stuff. Sure, the addional scenes are in not so good shape as they stem from a crappy 16 mm copy of the Argentinian 35 mm version. But if you watch the bonus material and see what that 16 mm copy looked like before the Murnau Stiftung restored it then you really appreciate all the work they've put into it.
There are still a few scenes missing which could not be restored or found but it's really just 2 or 3 short scenes I would say, judging the placeholder text for each scene. So yeah, this one's really impressive and if you can, get it on Blu-ray.

oh and after Metropolis I had to watch Blade Runner for the 28537506th time. Just because Metropolis makes you want to watch Blade Runner.
