must see Pacific Rim too! Looks like fun!

I watched a bunch of movies just a few days ago. Watched Evil Dead and I actually liked it. Is it as good as the original? That is really not fair to ask as it's a reboot and not an actual remake. And I liked it. Sure there's not a charismatic character like Ash in this one but in my opinion Ash wasn't really charismatic in the original Evil Dead movie either. In Evil Dead 2 he was. I really liked the story twist in the end too. And the gore...lovely. Is it oldschool and cheesy? No. But it's an effective and quite gorey horror flick that works in 2013.
Also watched Hitchcock and liked it quite a bit too. Not quite sure what people expected from this movie. I personally didn't really have any expectations and very much enjoyed it. And I love Anthony Hopkins in pretty much anything.
The Muppets was a whole lot of fun too. Sure, the singing got on my balls a bit once in a while but they didn't overdo it and the songs always had a self ironic touch to them. I think they did a good job ensuring that adults can enjoy this movie too. And there's quite a few cameos in this movie. Even Dave Grohl!

then a big surprise to me. I usually HATE...no, I DESPISE musicals. Really. If you know the Lars you know the Lars hates the musicals. So I was surprised to find out that I actually enjoyed the part of Les Mis

What about Cannibal?
South Park?
Sweeney Todd?
Nightmare Before Christmas?
Corpse Bride?
The original Wicker Man (sort of)?

That pretty much exhausts any muscials I like. :P

Be glad you didn't see all of it. I did. Well, technically I missed a scene because I needed to use the men's room. I considered just walking out of the cinema and leaving my girlfriend behind. But then I decided that would be bad form and (grudgingly) walked back in. I was effectively done within the first 5 minutes though. Still, I now know that if Pirece Brosnan sings the word "happiness", it comes out sounding like "herpes".

I don't like that many 'modern' musicals I have to say. But The Rocky Horror Picture Show is still worth wearing fishnet stockings for.

Yep I'd have RHPS at number one by a street. Tim Curry, baby!

forgot about that one. OK, maybe there are a bunch I like. But a lot of musicals are really, really horrible. I'd rather watch Hellraiser 8 ten times in a row before ever watching a second of Mamma Mia again  Wellllllll, for a million Euros I'd watch a second of it.

I too forgot Little Shop of Horrors; not sure how I missed that one. Rocky Horror's alright, but that's more my mother and sisters' field.

Anyway, watched Das Boot last night. Having never seen the director's cut, I was quite pleased and moved by what I saw. Barely noticed the length.

I will echo on Little Shop of Horrors. Doo-wop legendary status.

One of the few times that the film version is better than any other incarnations.

Not as good as SotD and Hot Fuzz :(

One should never trust a trailer, but I kind of got the impression that it was going to be a bit of a let down (by comparison, that is).

Will still check it out though.

Man Of Steel.

Rather ambivalent about this movie. It does have quite a few solid performances, particularly Michael Shannon's take on Zod, and Russel Crowe's Jor-El is comparable with Marlon Brando's, I'd say; the Clark Kent story and Henry Cavill's portrayal were engaging, and it had a fine balance of humor and seriousness to allow it to stand on it's own. However, despite this, some great action sequences and an interesting concept, the direction wasn't as good as it should have been, minor characters were hit and miss, and the overall character development seemed almost abandoned by the second half in favor of visual effects.

There were also a few aspects that didn't ring true to me, such as
Spoiler: show
Kevin Costner's death by tornado (even Twister was more realistic than this) and Clark Kent joining the Daily Planet at the end (he just saved the world and exposed himself to millions, and now expects a pair of glasses will hide his identity?),

which detracted from the experience. I suppose the problem with Snyder action is that eventually it does get too long, no matter how lavish he makes it look; there's also no denying said lavishness can make key scenes look like a video game. And whilst Cavill fit the role just fine, he did have a few too many shouting moments, I'd say.

For what it's worth, I liked it more than the last three Superman films, and I thought it had good music by Hans Zimmer (though I do miss the John Williams theme, I admit), but better acting, development and editing would have made this a much stronger movie.
