I'm back....actually got home just 8 hours ago, at 5:30 am or so. We sold TONS of stuff. What a hectic weekend. I'm dead. Saturday was the worst day of all the Wacken days, was on my feet literally for 18 hours because I worked and wanted to see several shows. We were right next to the damn strip show area and there were tons of horny, drunk guys close to were we were selling stuff that wanted to see nothing but boobs all the time. UGH! And they didn't even want to see my boobs...cretins! I spent all my money at Wacken and bought 10 CD's. And the best thing....I met the Clarebear! Really nice gal but boy, she is TALL! I feel so small now I got some pics of us taken and also of the festival itself. Gotta get them scanned first though....yup, I was using a shitty oldschool photo camera.
I have mixed feelings about the festival itself. The festival area itself seems to be too small for such an amount of people. They should either enlarge the festival area or sell less tickets next year. The ground was absolutely horrible. We were basically walking on mud and even if there was straw all over the place, it didn't really help much. Of course there was also the obligatory shit happening again. I wanted to go and watch Napalm Death and went 30 minutes early because I figured it's better to get there a little early rather than too late. So I get to the entrance where I by chance meet Clare again. And they won't let anyone inside!!!! There was a huge amount of people trying to get in but it was a no no because there was a fire, I think some straw actually caught fire. And also Napalm Death were already playing because Amorphis had to delay their show due to the fire or something like that. Awesome! So me and Clare were able to listen to ND and as we finally got in we saw like 2 minutes of the gig...yay! UGH!! Then we watched some of the Amorphis gig and then I had to return to the Metal Market. I think I didn't actually say it but it was a great pleasure to meet you in person, Clare! I hope my English wasn't too bad! Heh.
I was able to see some pretty good gigs anyways though aside from that.
I saw Enslaved....geee, they were awesome! Their performance was perfect...absolutely brilliant! It made me appreciate this band even more and they played 'As Fire Swept Clean The Earth'...wheeee! I saw and heard a bit of Blind Guardian...well, not my cup of tea to be honest. Then I saw Belphegor...fuck, they were awesome too and played lots of great songs. Although I was doing my best not to sink into the mud! Then I saw Sahg...which was the surprise of the festival to me. Great performance, their singer sounded just as good as on CD, maybe even better. They basically played most of the songs of their current Album and there will be a new one in October according to their singer...yay! Yes, I watched that and not Dimmu. I have seen Dimmu before and since I wasn't able to see lots of bands anyways due to work, I wanted to see bands that I have not seen before. Also seen and heard some of the Iced Earth gig...also not my cup of tea. BUT after that I saw Samael at 2 am. And boy they were good. They played Rain, Year Zero, Baphomet's Throne and many other great songs so I was a happy camper. Unfortunately they didn't play Shining Kingdom and Together but oh well, ya can't have everything! After all Enslaved didn't play Ascension and I was still happy! Heh. So I was able to sleep at 3:30 am that day and had to get 4 hours later again...yay! So I was a bit groggy on Sunday! On Sunday I saw 'Swallow The Sun' and they also blew me away. Their vocalist is so damn good, unbelievable. I doubt that I have seen many singers that are able to growl in such an impressive way. And musically it was a great show too! Then I was only able to hear some of the TON gig but then I saw Immortal...whoa! Pretty fucking awesome! It's impressive how 3 guys can put on a great show like that...love them or hate them but it was a great show and I love Immortal anyways. Horgh went berzerk on his drums and Abbath was actually kinda funny! The pyro stuff was really cool too and Abbath spit fire! So yeah, great gig! As far as I remember it was recorded for an official Immortal DVD...at least I think I read that a while back...so here's hoping that they will release that! Oh and they played 'Withstand The Fall Of Time'..which was awesome! So although I had little time, I saw quite a few awesome gigs!
So after Immortal were done we drove back home and I was more or less awake untill we were home...it was a 600 km ride or so. And I feel pretty crushed but I gotta recover quick because on Thursday it's time for the next festival....the Party.San festival where I'm planning to see Red Harvest!
Anyway...so this was my little Wacken report. Pics will follow as soon as I can upload them!
