Roadrunner Records and Atlantic USA have officially announced the release of the new Porcupine Tree album "Fear of a Blank Planet" in mid April. The album features six (mostly lengthy) tracks, and is the band’s most ambitious and cohesive work to date. Much of it was debuted last year on tour to a rapturous response from fans.

The lyrical content of the song-cycle on the album is a 21st century cocktail of MTV, sex, prescription drugs, video games, the internet, terminal boredom, and subsequent escape.

More news and previews of the album to follow on this site.

:D :D :D :D

Why? It's a beautiful song.

Seriously, that song had so much radio potential.

Most of my favorite songs from Steven Wilson are his softer songs like Trains, Feel So Low, or most of his stuff with Blackfield.

Dude's talented. Just like Devy.

I'm kind of excited and kind of scared about 6 lengthy songs. Most of the long songs that Steven has written usually have like 4 or 5 minutes of dead space somewhere in the middle. Still great songs, but they seem to drag on.

In Absentia. That album is in my top 5 albums of all time. I must admit I'm also more of a fan of Steve Wilsons shorter tracks. But I can't make a judgement on this album due to the length of a song!

In Absentia is by far thier best album. And I also agree that they're better when they're more soft and ethereal, ie Trains, Collapse Light Into Earth etc. Deadwing was a disappointment in a lot of ways for me so I hope it's not as metal oriented.

you just agree because Biert's not gonna give you his sausage otherwise! :P

oh, and Kivenkantaja....I'd get the 'In Absentia' too, since you like Deadwing.
Looking VERY forward to the new material as I'm quite the Steven Wilson fan boy...so are certain people from Aussieland and Scatland (so sorry for the typo) on here.

Not to worry you, but some of it did sound as melodic as that track. However, some of it was also the heaviest stuff they have come up with. There was one track in particular that I hope makes the final cut of the album as it was HUGE. Certainly from what I was lucky to hear live it will be their most diverse album yet.

Yay!!! This will be another great year for music. Just read that the new Opeth will probably be out at the end of the year.

This should be an interesting set of muzak. I'm glad I haven't heard the new material from the DVD tour. I was a a bit underwhelmed by Deadwing as a whole, so I'll try my best to avoid any preview clips this time around.

By the way, are these real lyrics to one of the songs? "Xbox is a god to me. Finger on the switch/my mother is a bitch/my father gave up ever trying to talk to me."

They look so damn silly.
