....FUCK! I will assume there are a lot of people here who have already heard it....wow! All the vocal layers and stuff, the riffs are intense, Devin kicks ass on it...it has it all.

Ayreon's last album. Shame on you for having no clue,NoisyPink. Think Herman's Head, the musical. But with thought instead of bad sitcom cheese.

I dunno, there's a fair bit of cheese in there, just not of the sitcom variety! I love some elements of it though.

i agree on the cheese. too much for my taste. it's brilliant music, though. a LOT of music at once, but you've gotta be quite resistant to kitsch to really dig it.

Is that album typical of Ayreon's sound and style? What's another good album primer with this group if not this one?

It's an okay album. A lot of prog is really silly and I'd say Ayreon's stuff falls into that category. Well written, though.
I like Loser best.

I payed a lot of money for this double disc/dvd project and it's worth the money. Almost everyone who was involved in this project did one hell of a job. I like it but you need much more time to dig all this music. Even though I haven't heard another CD from Arjen (spell.?) I think he's a quite good musician.
Devin's short appearance on this disk is......well.......it's Devin so it's supposed to be Über-kewl! Everyone who haven't heard Devin screaming on this little jewel,.................believe me he screams the hell out of his lung!

I like it, well done cheesy stuff. Devin is underused and a few of the vocalists really annoy me.

I've been humming and hawing over getting this Ayreon disk awhile now. Maybe I'll check out Loser. I'm listening to GWAR, Tormentor. Devy's voice is so distinctive, even doing gang back up vocals it's instantly recognisable.

Ayreon's not so much a group as it is an ever shifting project (the only constants are Arjen Lucassan and Ed Warby on drums).
The next one to get is The Final Experiment. Then get Into The Electric Castle, and then The Universal Migrator.
