I think so. That and the UK lineup sucked.

I'll just quote George Carlin as always:

Good old Carlin. I've never seen such a huge event raise so little interest before. I find it odd acually, and yeah the whole thing seems that way.

i wonder how much energy was consumed in all those huge rock shows. a friend who's into that stuff told me the lights alone on such an event eat ridiculously large amounts of energy, comparable to what a small city needs in ...some rather long period of time.

and usually, they make the electricity with diesel powered generators in order to not break down the local electricity network. might not be the most environmentally cleanest way to help earth.

or did anyone hear they used LED lights to make this a somewhat green concert?

These concert things seem to have lost their impact. The message is good, but the medium is a bit of a waste of time. I mean, it's like: Here's Madonna, everyone. Watch her writhing around like a gap-toothed old stripper... Oh, and by the way, global warming sucks. Stop it.

Actually, the lineups for these things show how crap popular music is these days. The Police were great... 20 years ago!

I wonder if they turned down the music of these shows to save energy.

I believe they used bio-diesel in the generators. During the Sydney show the generators powering the lights actually ran out of fuel, leaving Crowded House to play in darkness for 20 minutes or so.

i was giggling at the thought of them playing St Anger haha. MADLY IN ANGER with energy waste!!!

but yeah, the hypocrisy and smarmyness of it all grinded my gears.

The resources used to hold the conerts isn't the bigh issue to me. They seemed to have taken some steps to reduce the impact, and if theoretically it does something for awareness etc (not sure it did but never mind, must have boosted a few record sales though) then that's fine with me.

I think once you start down that argument you end up with cutting out all activity that is not 100% necessary for living...

What I do find hilarious is how many of these people on those stages probably have big gas guzzlers, or fly in private jets around the world and have lifestyles that really epitomise consumption
