Devy Metal Knock Off

So, being an old man, I can't keep up on all this 'rock' music everyone's listening to today. Are there any bands out there that are copying the 'Devy Metal' sound? Devy's music is so unique (solo particularlly) that it has a sub genre named to it. Since he has burned some new trails, are there any bands that are following that sound or have mentioned the Dev as a major influence?Rip off IS the sincerest form of flattery. How about tribute band?I'm suprized that some arn't taking his stuff and 'pre chewing' it for more mainstream audiences.Normally, when someone as unique as Devy comes there are pretenders to the throne.Any I've not heard of?

The new Textures, Silhouettes, has a lot of Dev if you ask me. Progressive, flawless production, great vocals, lots of ambience.

The new Scar Symmetry album has a song called 'Quantumleaper' that has a few very Dev inspired/ripped off parts in it.

Scarve has that "mellow spacey melody over ball of noise" dynamics in some songs, they admit they're inspired by SYL, their drummer even proudly boasts SYL shirt in "Luminiferous" booklet

. Also last Mnemic is somewhat SYLish in places.
And if you overlooked that, check forum member's Dosa Jhana
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=7396It's very devish (same tuning/scales used I guess, and cool layered vocals), but with added Type-O-Negative influences. Very cool stuff.

I was going to mention this. Its a great album...sounds so very Dev for a non Dev related band.

I think BrunoN also mentioned Smaxone in this context, a while ago.

i found a couple members here at HDR with music myspaces that took a substantial amount of influence of the "devy metal" sound, almost on the brink of being pure rip-offs
one of those guys did ambient stuff too and basically did his own shitty version of devlab

Yep, I third that. Silhouettes somehow manages to sound derivative AND excellent. There are some great transitions from Mesuggahesque riffage / technicality, to some really beuatiful (and clearly Dev-inspired) moments. If they said they weren't inspired by the likes of Meshuggah, Dev and even Mike Patton, they'd be fibbing.
Like I said, it's been done before but they do it so well. Check it out.

In the latest terrorizer magazine they say they get the meshuggah and devin townsend comparisons all the time...and admit to being influenced by both.

Sweet. Glad we didn't waste your money!
I've found it to be a bit of a grower... It has that initial punch, but over repeated listens I found myself liking it more and more.

Cool. We're all influenced by who we listen to on some level, so showing your influences isn't necessarily a bad thing.
What I don't understand is when a band tries to pretend otherwise, when anyone with ears knows different. Good on them for being honest.

I've just been listening to the Anathema song 'Shroud of Frost' which is quite an old track but the ending of the song reminds me of Devs stuff, very dreamy and floaty.
