Just interested to see what people will tag the 4 albums as on Last FM, as it seems to get some people worked up on said website...

I tag everything as Devin Townsend. I don't like to confuddle things like that on my iPod. Like to have everything in one menu... I've had VERY ANGRY SRS MESSAGES in my LastFM inbox about that before. Eejits.

Devin Townsend Project. I think the separation is important. Dev is calling it The Devin Townsend Project to separate it from the other stuff on purpose.

I'm putting it under "Townsend, Devin," since I put all music by solo artists under last name, first name, and it's much more convenient and organized to put all his stuff together. But, similar to what I did with the Devin Townsend Band stuff, I'll put a comment in the notes field that reads something like "originally released under Devin Townsend Project," and all will be well.

I'm also a little anal about my tags but I couldn't care less if other people (on last.fm) disagree with my methods. Let 'em get worked up over nothing and just enjoy the music. ;)

Having said that, Devin Townsend Project. Is there going to be a "The" in front of that btw?

I'm not sure "The" counts - in my library I've tagged Meads of Asphodel without "the" for alphabetical purposes, and it seems to have been auto-corrected on my last FM profile

I just tag everything as Devin Townsend, except for Strapping Young Lad. I like to keep everything sorted together.

If you get angry messages about it, just troll the fuck out of them. Making people angry over inconsequential shit on the internet is great fun, and a wholesome activity that everyone should partake in from time to time. Telling them that you can't hear them, and that they should turn their internet up is a good start.

Ocean Machine, Infinity, Physicist, Terria, Devlab, Hummer, Ziltoid: Devin Townsend
Accelerated Evolution, Synchestra: Devin Townsend Band
Ki, Addicted, Deconstruction, whatever comes after that: Devin Townsend Project

That's how I have it.

I just tag everything as "Devin Townsend" considering there is a strong stylistic similarity with all of his work and he is the principal songwriter in all of them. I've actually considered tagging all the SYL stuff as "Devin Townsend" as well, but I don't for various reasons.

I always just do it as the CD comes up when I rip it onto my computer.
