Here are the updates taken from my RVP Drums website for Jan/Feb 2006.......... enjoy !

January 17th 2006

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

I hope all of you had an awesome and safe Holiday Season. As you can
see, I have'nt updated my site for a while, so that means I have a HUGE
amount of news for you all. Here's some news on endorsement stuff, the
DTB, pic's of Non-Human Level together, in person for the first time
and news on my Solo project.

First of all, I have some RVP news for ya'... I'm doing some interviews
for Drum Magazines from France and Holland ! I'll be doing an interview
with Batterie from France and Schlagwerkkrant from Holland. Look out
for those issues to come out in the next couple of months. I'll be
talking about nothing but drums, should be cool.

I just finished up confirming the RVP Signature Sticks with Regal Tip
Drumsticks ! That's right, I'll have my own signature sticks made by
Regal Tip. They'll basically have my name, my signature and the DTB
band logo on them. I'll have these sticks when I go on any DTB tour I do.
I'll be sure to throw some of the, more beat up, sticks into the crowd when
I finish playing our set at some of the shows. These sticks won't be sold in
stores, they were made for me for touring and sessions. So, if you get one,
enjoy it ! It's rare stuff !

Now some DTB news... The DTB will be releasing our new
album "Synchestra" at the end of January. This album has recieved
nothing but incredible reviews from some great magazines and websites
worldwide. I still won't back down from saying that this is the best
work Devin has EVER done with his solo material or maybe anything he's
done ! I'm sure all of you have heard that we are opening up for Opeth
in February in the Eastern States and Canada. The full bill is
Opeth/Dark Tranquility/DTB. Here are some confirmed dates :

Feb 15 - Lincoln Theatre - Raleigh, NC
Feb 16 - The Norva - Norfolk, VA
Feb 17 - Recher Theatre - Towson, MD
Feb 18 - Mr. Small's Theatre - Millvale, PA
Feb 19 - Bogarts - Cincinnati, OH
Feb 20 - Headliner's Music Hall - Louisville, KY
Feb 21 - Newport Music Hall - Columbus,OH
Feb 24 - Webster Theatre - Hartford, CT
Feb 25 - Heartbreak Hotel - Providence, RI
Feb 26 - Imperial - Quebec City, QC
Feb 28 - The Drink Nightclub - London, ON

The DTB will aslo be playing these shows without Opeth :

Feb 23 - Jaxx - Springfield, VA (with Dark Tranquility)
Feb 27 - Lee's Palace - Toronto, ON (Headlining Show)

There also might be another show or two added to our leg of the Opeth
tour. Lastly, we will be shooting a video for "Vampira" this week,
which is the first single off of Synchestra. Stay posted at the HDR
website for more news on the video and touring stuff !

I finally met 2 of the 3 other members in Non-Human Level, for the
first time EVER, on December 5th here in Vancouver ! They were in town
with Darkane playing on the Transgression Tour with SYL, Soilwork and
Fear Factory. It was a very memorable time. Christofer Malmstrom and
Peter Wildoer are amazing people. We had a blast hanging out and stuff.
We even all sat together, in their Tour Bus, with "Speed" and Dirk from
Soilwork and listened to the album together. It was a really cool
moment. We're all extremely happy with how NHL came out and you never
know, we may put out another album in the future, never say never. We
all think we could release another devastating Thrash record..... for
now, you all can enjoy our debut release from Listenable records. If
you want to see pic's of the meeting...check them out in the picture section on my website.

My solo project is still on !!! I've had lot's of fans asking me about
this album and all I can say is sorry it's taking this long ! I was
soooooo busy in 2005. I had session work coming out of my ass and also
recorded the new DTB record. Needless to say, some of my guest's (for
the album) were extremely busy as well. Alex Skolnick was very busy
with Testament and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, while Trevor Dunn was
doing his Jazz trio along with the Fantomas. Devin was solidly booked
like he always is and Byron Stroud was crazy busy touring with both SYL
and Fear Factory and the list goes on.... I'm getting closer to
finishing the writing for the album and am planning to record the album
in early Summer 2006. My Brother, Jay Van Poederooyen (Headly, Hinder),
will be Co-Producing, Mixing and Engineering the album for me, so
expect it to sound HUGE ! Jay is an amazing talent and will make this
album sound crushing. This record WILL get done this year !

Lastly, my amazing web designer Geoffrey Rousselot (SYL,DTB) will be re-
doing my entire website ! This will start taking place in March this
year. I'll be hooking up with the talented Omer Cordell (SYL, DTB, Fear
Factory, Meshuggah, Mnemic)from Seventh Frame, in Toronto, who will do
a photo shoot with me before our show at Lee's Palace. This will be a
photo shoot for all my endorsement companies and for my new website.
The new website is going to be killer !!! Geoff has some great ideas,
as does Omer. The two of them working together always makes for an
amazing website.....stay posted !

Well, that's about it for now. There is alot on the go with myself and
the DTB. 2006 will be yet another busy year, this time with more
touring than recording. Stay posted for more stuff to come, there is
alot cooking right now. Until the next update take care...

All the best,

RVP

Here's the interview with Slagwerkkrant:

CD/INTERVIEW
THE DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND - SYNCHESTRA
RYAN VAN POEDEROOYEN

Being a drummer and working with the Canadian metal virtuouso Devin Townsend, means almost by default competing with percussion-cannon Gene Hoglan, who forms Strapping Young Lad with Townsend. The same goes for the Vancouver-born Ryan van Poederooyen, son of a Canadian mother and a Dutch father (Jan). Without the good words of the reknowned drummnig colossus the 32 year old drummer would not have been heard with Devin Townsend.
"I played in the local metal band God Awakens Petrified when Gene saw me playing for the first time" he tells us. "Devin was looking for a drummer for The Devin Townsend Band, and Gene told him about me. After 5 minutes of jamming it was settled!"
Shortly after, Van Poederooyen, who is strongly influenced by fellow-Canadian Neil Peart, made himself heard on 2003's Accelerated Evolution. His best work, however, can be heard on Synchestra. "For the first record, Devin had everything ready. All I had to do was study the drum lines and then track them. From the moment we started working on the follow up record, I was instructed to be myself. I came up with everything you hear. Devin only stopped me when I went too progressive."
"I had to record all the songs in two days. Despite the time pressure, we have tinkered with the material a lot in the studio, for the first time in our co-operation. Most of the tracks were nailed in one take, even the seven minute ones that keep changing throughout!"
Van Poederooyen excels during Baby Song, where he rivals Gene Hoglan. "I'm really proud of the tribal grooves in Notes From Africa, the polka rythm in Vampolka, and the track Triumph that goes all over the place and features a solo by Steve Vai on top of that. Baby Song is special because I sprained my left ankle two weeks before hitting the studio. My soloactivities and the work with thrashers Non-Human Level, with Darkane drummer Peter Wildoer on vocals, were delayed. Eventually I managed to play the fast double kick, with a brace and a lot of willpower. Gene and I always assist eachother in the studio, and because he was there I couldn't give up when I had to play a part that Devin would usually entrust to him. It hurt, but I'm fucking proud of the result!"

And there's a nice pic of Ryan and his shiny Reference kit (new promo shots?). And I'm pretty sure they are mistaken about the Baby Song stuff, I haven't noticed a lot of double kick on that one. They probably meant Hypergeek?
Thanks to fragility for spell checking.
