The Calvin and Hobbes connection

A while back I was reading one of my Calvin and Hobbes collections (the books with a year's worth of comic strips in them), and I came across some very familiar lines. In one series of strips, Calvin is criticizing the music industry, and several of his ideas and even direct quotes appear in the song "The Girl next Door". I can't find the book now, but I remember a few of the similarities:

Calvin: "...pretend they're still rebellious with their video posturing."
Devin: "...pretend they're still rebellious with their video pose."

Calvin: "The revolution is a capitalist industry!"
Devin: "The 'revolution' is a capitalist industry."

Calvin also mentions something about tee shirts affiliating you with an 'elite clique', and there may have been one other reference that Devin also used, but for the life of me I can't remember.

Coincidence? Or is Devin a Calvin and Hobbes fan too?

Wow.... Nice find dude.

I think he's a genius too. Very reclusive aswell apprently... like he never does interviews or book signings/appearances or anything. Rumour has it that he never even goes outside! omg!

Haha, nah I dunno...

At one point they were trying to license Calvin and Hobbes for cartoons and toys and crap. I'm glad that never happened...

And he didn't make his comics money-making machines like what happened to Garfield. Watterson rules.

Though the syndicate tried with all their might to get him to license his work for merchandising. Fortunately, he is a man of great integrity...
