You, who will buy the album, are sheltering those who will not, that's the negative. You and them are the same community. You keeping your head high is ok, feeling no shame is ok, but turning a blind eye and distancing yourself from the rest while giving them silent moral support is not ok.

I am not giving anyone support. I'll say it again, I'm in Walmart shopping, I get thirsty and I have a lot more shopping to do. So I go up to the front a grab a soda from the cooler. I continue shopping and I drink some of the soda, maybe even all of it. I then finish shopping and go up front to pay, I put that empty bottle on the belt and have them ring it up and I pay for it. Am I a thief? Am I a supporter of thieves? Am I in the same community as thieves? Absolutely NOT!

This is no different.

But Walmart hasn't put that soda in the cooler. Someone else did and Walmart hasn't got the price tag on it yet. You drank it already and you can't pay for it because they can't charge you. So you get to go home and come back a month later to pay. Again your conscience is clean but something is wrong nonetheless.

I wonder if we'll manage to keep this on until Jan 27th.

Btw, I never called anyone a thief. For me downloaders are not thieves, just pragmatic opportunists. Some have conscience (like you), some don't and are fucking artists over. With "everyone doing it" you support each other but are NOT responsible for other's actions. It's a great loophole, everyone just does it and that is it.

I think the ones who do it shouldn't post here on the official forum. Synchestra discussion should be locked the moment the first leak showed up.

...And where else would the threads show up? DTB board? RVP board? General?

I'm not disagreeing with you, but at least this way it's at least halfway controllable. Close down completely you say? Well...

Exactly, it's not the same. You're going round the back of Walmart (actually, a much smaller local store where you know some employees by name) and take a soda from the stock, where you are not supposed to be.
Then, a month later, when you are have done some more shopping and you are paying for those, you say "oh, an by the way, I took a soda from your stock last month, put that on the bill as well." I doubt the shop would appreciate your actions.

You can't take it in literal terms. I'm not concerned, I download very few albums because I find P2P to be more of a hassle than not. Tell me this, though. If I went into Boston and came across the promo to Synchestra, should I pass it up just because it's not released yet? That is also no different than just downloading it.

Let me say this, though, I downloaded St. Anger when it first came out. I'm grateful. I've not bought that CD yet and have no plans ever to. Downloading can be a great thing sometimes! Hahaha.

 I downloaded it just ten minutes ago but I woke up to what I was doing and deleted the files..I've wrecked too many albums with downloading and this one will be too special to just blow with downloading.

Damn, Eyesore, no offense, but you certainly have very specific ideas about what should and should not be seen on this forum. I mean, in one thread you're complaining 'cause they're deleting threads and now in this one you asking for it.

I vote Eyesore for moderator status!

I bought St. Anger. Paid 20 euros ($20?) of it.
It was the first Metallica album I bought.

Well, you can make up an excuse that gives you the right to download an album.
But there are still the laws. For instance, in Finland it is illegal to SHARE copyrighted material.
Even though you downloaded something for yourself and had the right to listen to it, you still shared it to millions of other people and promoted piracy.

Moral talk just isn't effective with this subject.

Ha. There is a literal meaning of the analogy and then there are several interpretations. The sole purpose of the interpretation is always to mask in it's own specific way the true meaning of the analogy. The truth is, your analogy is working against you. Sure it can't be taken literally all the way, but only with things that are not important, like the comparison between a can of soda and Synchestra: there are millions of cans of soda but only one Synchestra (one Synchestra lasts for life, one soda can can't). Arguing in this direction would be counterproductive. Then there are things that are hellaimportant: whan is the relation between Walmart and HDR? Synchestra is available on the web and HDR wants the money for it. So Walmart with its storehouses must be the web and Walmart's paydesk the HDR money account. Further, Walmart store shouldn't have a can of soda, because Synchestra is not in the store either. That can is not officially on sale yet, so someone must have fucked up and put it on the shelf. Now, if you drink a can of soda IN Walmart, you can't leave Walmart until you pay for the soda. If you wanted to pull it off, you'd have to stay in Walmart until Jan 27th. Or from HDR's perspective, if it were a matter of minutes or hours (the amount of time you usually spend on one Walmart visit) between the first leak and the official release date, I'm sure HDR wouldn't have a problem with it. With Synchestra, there is no restriction of movement of Walmart kind. Here your analogy suggests precisely that Walmart DOES let you out and trusts you to come back later to pay for that soda you drank when it will be officially on sale. But that DOESN'T HAPPEN. This is the truth of your analogy and the absurdity of it speaks in favor of NOT downloading. Try again.

Eyesore wrote:Tell me this, though. If I went into Boston and came across the promo to Synchestra, should I pass it up just because it's not released yet? That is also no different than just downloading it.

What does coming accross mean? Someone handing it to you? A friend in music business who received it from HDR? That is different. You'd be one of the few lucky persons to hear it prior to its release, with downloading 'the lucky few' become 'the irresponsible mass'.

You got me there. Devin is guaranteed quality, a gem, the majority of music production isn't. I understand downloading is being one step ahead. Curiosity is not fatal for the cat no more, the cat learned a trick.
