Very brave! It's cool that your production/engineering skills have become so refined through doing so much work for other people. I'm looking forward to hearing this for quite a few different reasons now!

I'm kind of lost too, but I think that I've figured it out, and if Dev is indeed mastering this, then that's very good, because he's done so well for other bands.

Yes, we can still have hope the album won't be ruined by compression during the masterig.

interesting
theres a couple albums that dont list the "masterer"
Ocean Machine for example
I wonder if they just left it un-mastered

That's a bit impossible as part of the mastering process is choosing the track order.

....and I just took a peek at the liner notes for Ocean Machine and it says right there that it was mastered at Sterling Sound, NY. Are you sure you don't have a bootlegged copy or something?

It says where it's been mastered, not who mastered it.
Any way, I'm kinda confused with the who production/mastering/mixing terminology? What is what?

That's cool that Dev's mastering it since he knows how he wants the album to sound so he's best for the job

hey.. wheres my newsletter dagsarnit?!
anyway, the whole "mastering" process is kind of vague. in the old days of records it referred to a specific pocess of setting EQ's in order for it to print to vinyl correctly (something about a slope favouring the treble so that the grooves werent too big, which the "phono" portion of your home amplifier would correct)
so these days it seems to just means setting an overall EQ and/or compression etc.
you can pick the track order at any point really
i'm curious, I wonder if theres a chance Dev could tell us exactly what he did during the mastering for this album

Dev has mastered? I thought he produced those other bands. Mastering is a whole other artform. It worries me slightly if he is mastering this. It's good to have a "fresh" set of ears involved at some point, someone who isn't so involved with or close to the project. Then again, it is much cheaper to do it yourself.

And there is something to be said for having total control over your work. Whatever. Just get it done so I can buy it!

At first I thought this threads title was more commanding. "Dev..you are mastering this one!....or else". I was slightly disapointed when I was wrong...
