I agree...
I surf... I could totally see this song as the soundtrack to some kickass wave footage...
Or... I could totally see myself listening to this on the way to the beach to psych myself up!

Until the album is released, please keep the Synchestra talk to the Spoiler thread.
Thanks.

HDR licensing one track that has some widespread appeal because it rocks would not equate to Devin selling out. It's not like he wrote the song to appeal to "the masses". I think it's a good idea. People are always complaining that Devin doesn't get enough recognition; how is he ever gonna pick up new fans if the existing ones get pissy at the mere suggestion that he put his work out there for new audiences to hear? As long as the commercial stuff is kept separate to his songwriting/album-making processes I don't see any problem with allowing the end results to be used in videogames or whatever.

Exactly. I hate how some people want a band to never become famous. I want all of my favorite bands to get the recognition they deserve.

I wouldnt mind seeing one of Dev's songs on something like a videogame or in a movie or whatever. I think if I was playing a game to one of Dev's songs it would make it 10x fun.
Just if that happens I hope he doesnt go a little overboard with it. like most bands do. But I know he wouldnt.

getting something on a video game is one thing ;But extreme marketing? YUCK. Keep kiddie music like limp busicit for that crap.

thats a good view of Xtreme marketing.
I would like Devin to get recognition for good music, not for something that would go good with mountain dew, baggy pants and skate rats.
Perhaps I a m too old and simply have seen how mass marketing has ruined so many bands and tainted things over time.
AND.. shouldnt measure success by how many mobs of idiots listen to what music one produces. If this is the case, Brittney Spears is a great musical success!

"fallout: brotherhood of steel" on xbox uses devs ambience stuff drom devlab.... creates a spookly atmosphere
and in the boss battles in the same game theres messugah and chimaira and heaps of cool metal tunes with the vocals cut out...
I think it would be cool.... and its only a sell-out if he changes his style directly to make sales IMO

There, that's it. I would love it if more people knew about DTB and the music, and if lots of people love the music. But only as long as it really is DTB music, fueled by the love of making music, not the love of making money.

Sigh. The old "sell out" argument.
You know, if Devin wants to make money with his art by licensing all over the place, I say, more power to him. I think he deserves all the money he can make with his work. It won't bother me one whit if I hear Gaia on a snowboarding video, Pixillate on a Mt. Dew commercial, Sunset on a romance movie, or even Storm blasting in a club scene in a TV episode.
It's his music. He made it, he deservs to profit from it.
But, if he starts making shitty music that I hate and it's obviously calculated to sell to the masses then I probably won't be as big a fan as I was previously.
Selling out is a myth. As Tool points out in "Hooker with a Penis", every band is a sell out when they decide to make a record, ANY RECORD. They are automatically selling out by asking you to pay them money for their art.
What we all hate is not when bands sell out, but when they run out of good ideas and start recycling in the hopes of duplicating past glory and hits (see Metallica, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Limp Bizkit, etc.) They didn't sell out when they wanted to make money. Everybody who throws a concert, makes an album, wants to make money. And, they deserve to make money if they can.
