The little string lick that comes in at about 0:34...that sounds pretty complex to be a keyboard string synth. If it is, what kind of programs can do that? If not, did they get any real string players "besides the double bass on Let it Roll" on the album?

Doesn't sound too complex to me. I'm guessing it's a synth or perhaps programmed string samples. It can be done with just about every decent audio recording software, they often have integrated samples/soft synths that can be programmed.

Definitely a string patch.
