I love digipacks. Except when you spill an entire pot of coffee in the front seat of your car where your AE digipack is sitting. They are very good at soaking up coffee. :(

I don't know about you guys, but I prefer my CDs packaged in solid gold.

I loathe digipacks.

There are so many reasons to hate them.

I just don't buy them anymore. Luckily most new albums are released both as digipack and jewel case. But sometimes it's quite hard to get the jewel case versions, because most of the record stores only order the digipacks. Then I simply use one of the available mailorders.

But if a new album is solely released as digipack...

... IT MAKES ME F*****G MAD!

I hate clutter.
Partly in response to an HDR fanemail, I must admit that I'm a fan of the download.
Sure, there's a lot of argument about the sound - but my dog won't let me turn any of my stereos up loud anyways..... so I ain't gonna hear much production at his happy low levels :grommit: .
I download from legit sources and pay good money for it.
But less clutter is nice.

jewel cases are soooooooooo boring. nothing like a little piece of art packed in an unfolding digipak. and if you ppl treasure your cds there should be no problem in damaging the digipaks. i wish all of my cds were in that format...or in burgopak, like the latest cannibal corpse cd...there's still space for innovation!!

They'll last as long as jewel cases and will look far better the whole time.

I agree.

Though they are a bit of a liability, they are far nicer to handle. A good fold out digipack is like the CD equivalent of gate fold vinyl.

exactly you just don't get the same sense of satisfaction with jewel cases

You guys said exactly what I was thinking. A digi feels just (well Ok, almost just) like a good, old-fashioned vinyl sleeve, and on top they don't have crappy little joints that break if you so much as breathe on them!

True, you can replace jewel cases but that doesn't stop them sucking like a dry-mouthed porn star at a lollypop buffet.

I will always choose a Digi over a jewel case just for the extended artwork you normally get and it does generally look better (like a gatefold LP). Terria being a great example.

I did manage to get tape stuck to the side of my Terria and when i had to remove it I took half of the case with it. I was more than a little pissed off about that! Does anyone know if you can still get the Digi Terria?

Oh how I wish the answer to this isn't 'only on ebay' I want a Terria Digi so bad

i dont feel artwork is so important
basically what matters is whats on the cd, the rest is icing
i mean, i like to check out the artwork and booklets maybe for the first week or so, but then, i place the cd in one of my cd tower, and i'll only pull it out to play the cd

also, digipack dont always fit in cd towers and such, which is quite annoying, i even custom made a rack for my cd's, so i could put them digi's in

nine inch nails special edition and all that could have been, would be an exception, the packaging on that one is great, with the hard cover for the digipacl inside

don't forget that usually, digipak editions have some extra song(s) in it as well!!
