In my experience, giving people the information they want, how they want it, on the device they want it on is the way to get your word out. Now that we live in a world with a new social networking site every day, how do you keep up? Thankfully, there is a site out there to save time with such updating, Ping.fm. Set up up all of your social networks once and update them all with one site.

Hope this helps.

The Dev wrote:OK guys...getting back into this here...been setting up and moving to do Addicted, I start rehearsals tommorow.

So I looked through the pages and it's incredibly touching...but also intimidating, Reverbnations sight was a stimulus overload, and in terms of street teaming, it's confusing.

Here's my thoughts:

I want to do as much as possible, but theres only so much time in a day...What could I provide you guys? Some free music? Some first run ticket stuff? PDFs of flyers? Stickers? On line concerts?

I'm down with anything man, music is life and the internet is the only way to fly...whatever is a current forum to get the music out there, I'm in.

I have so much to do musically that it's hard for me to do a great job at the promo side, Maybe some of you could be supervisors and I could provide you stuff...I don't know, but I'm open for suggestions, and it would be great to just start it all up this week.

Any thoughts? I'm heading to the studio now, I'll be back tonight...working on the myspace, but it's my first time, and it's a little confusing...I'll get it though...myspace should be really cool in about a week.

Also...

Somebody else has taken myspace.com/devintownsend I contacted hime to ask if I could have it back, but didn't get a reply...is there some sort of protocol? Or am I just out of luck...

What else is there...Facebook, Twitter? I know not such things...

dev

Send me a box of stickers. I will go all over Chicago, sticking them EVERYWHERE. Including music venues.

Pretty sure that's called cybersquatting if he is doing that and his last name isn't townsend. if that's the case, it's illegal especially if he tries to make you pay him to get the url. lil legal tip there dev ol buddy!

It would be very cool if the box-set would be released the same day the 4th album comes out. Maybe you could manage to offer it a) as the 4th album alone b) as a complete box-set and c) as a reduced-prize package containing only the box, bonus stuff and the 4th album (for those people who bought the other 3 albums already at the day of the release). Or maybe you stick some vouchers in the albums to get the box with the bonus-stuff later? I think it would be a nice and friendly statement against what for example Roadrunner did with some Opeth-Albums.

Yeah I kinda agree with that. 95% of all people on this forum would be buying the 4 albums twice; first time just after release, second time in the box set. Although it'll make Dev rich, it'll make 99% of the forumers poor, which stinks in these times of financial crisis. :(

I've never helped to promote an album or an artist before (my excitment levels for a Dev album are a thousand-fold of any other!), but I think the following must be useful,

1- PDFs of promo material to willing fans world-wide.
2- Fans writing articles in their local student magazine, etc
3- Updating Facebook and Twitter profiles
4- Spamming friends (but not so much we annoy them!)
5- Free tracks from Dev to music magazines
6- Student radios
7- Fan-organised launch parties
8- In the studio youtube vids from Dev
9- Get tattoos of Devins face on fan's foreheads
10- Dev pulls a major publicity stunt like eating a guitar or building an animal rescue centre for abondoned monkeys purely out of Ki albums?

OK I'm out of ideas :zzzz:

i think online concerts are a really good idea. you could set someting up with youtube for a live stream of something. cause youtube is taking over the world.

maybe for them streaming the video you could give them your videoes as exclusives insted of selling them via itunes etc?

erm maybe before KI comes out release a song with the individual tracks seperated (drums, bass etc) so people can make their on remixes. They will end up all over youtube and such. Plus people who may not have heard your music before but who are really into their remixing etc may therefore come across your music.

as far as giving people stuff for street teaming is a really nice idea, i think i speak for most people on here that we would do it just for the fact of you being back in music. but if anyone i would say either first dibs on tickets orrrrrrr bonus track or something.

An idea for the future maybe a live album? which would featuring songs from the for albums etc. DVD? greatest hits, but thats the future

erm

whoever said about the guitar lessons for guitar world, thats a reli good idea.

also webisodes ftw

last fm, twitter, myspace, facebook, bebo, pure volume etc

OOOOOOOOOOOO how about with the weeks leading up to KI you do podcasts where you i.e talk about the new albums, whats new with dev, play a live acoustic song, play a clip from the album?? cause people would loveeeeeeee THAT!

ok thats enough for now, sorry if i repeated anyones ideas, there was akotttttt of posts to read through

im going to pimp out my myspace profile with Ki stuff and add the Ki preview when dev puts it back up. Just a little something i can do to help promote. i think getting people to hear the Ki preview somehow would be a really good tool for getting new Devin fans...

Those are nice ideas.
As I said, when working with both clothing and music, I'm gonna make myself a KI-shirt!
All dev from the front to the back.
I can also set up posters, stickers, some lil stuff to our customers.
We sell stuff also online, and usually the internet customers want stickers and all kinda freebies with their orders, so our store's stickers and some random stuff with them.
(Once I sent Vaasa's local news paper to some guy across the country :D He was stoked! :D)

But something to print out would be cool.
Or something to play (I play here music 8 hours a day and have had campaigns for few albums I've personally loved or the band has asked).

Whatteheck, I am spreading the word even without stuff, because I am so excited to get new music from Him! :D
And I also understand Leech's point, of course.
But I also love to do the best I can also in IRL where we (some of us) (mainly) live :D

Long Live Dev! (and the music too) :D

I´m promoting my own band all the time. It won´t be a great effort to do a little Dev-Promo for me.

We could do Devertisement on the back of our Flyers. We play regularly one show per month and I´ll spread the word on these.

I will manage to play The Dev on the next Rock-Station Parties, where I am VJ.

So I need Ppfs with a decent artwork.

I don´t really need some kind of reward for that, but I wouldn´t refuse it either ;-)
Shake hands on one of the concerts would be great and it´s cheap for you, Dev.
