Hung around after the show and one of the sound tech's actually personally went and asked Dev if he would come say hi, and he did. I was stoked, and Dev was super friendly and he must have said at least 5 times how much he appreciated the support. He even wanted to stick around and have a chat. He's an awesome dude.

You luck bastard hehe. Id love to meet him, my brother got a picture with him too. Should've invited them over for cones  bloody hippies haha.

Did anyone else see the wanker at the front that got Devy's pic? As soon as he got it he starts yelling out "Who wants to buy it, who wants to buy it". He was very close to having my fist in the side of his fat head. What kind of "fan" wants to sell Devy's pic? I'm keeping mine close to my heart.

DEV!! Put a picture of you wearing the shirt :D its not everyday someone you idolized has in his possession a shirt that you wore for 7 months for work!

Is Rohan around on these boards? I'll have to keep an eye out for him at the Melbourne gig tonight, haven't seen that guy for years.

(Speaking of t-shirts, I've got a heap of old Devin/SYL t-shirts I rarely wear nowadays, once I have a bit of time I'll probably chuck em up here to sell!)

Spades wrote:my ears are fucked. just drove back Newcastle and almost ran out of petrol which would've been a disaster. The Ziltoid songs were definitely the highlight for me. haha I saw the tshirt and was wondering what that was all about.

I was ready to deck these 2 punks in front of me just having a loud general conversation during Ki. Un-fucking-believable. They weren't paying any attention at all while everyone else was silent and experiencing the moment. I ended up walking further back so I could hear.

Some other dickhead yelled out "S.Y.L!!!". yeah mate, they're not playing.

Devin seemed really in his element. Such an incredible talent but just comes across as a genuine humble fella and being only about the music. His ramblings are a deadset pisser as well.

Not very often do I go to a gig by myself but I had a fucking great night.

Yeah, though my ears weren't that screwed - probably because it wasn't as loud as some of the other gigs I've been to. Devin was bloody amazing and was screaming my delight at any possible opportunity. I hope those two punks weren't me and my mate. I was trying to listen intently, but the other guy kept asking so many f--king questions it wasn't funny. Every song I had to answer about five questions. Pissed me off, too. It was his first concert and didn't get the idea you're supposed to shut the fuck up in the quiet moments and NO QUESTIONS during everything else.

If it was me, sorry about that, mate. I'll kick his arse for ya' if it was.

Otherwise Dev, fuckin' brilliant! Loved every moment. Can't wait to see you again.

Bad: The sound was absolutely terrible. Guitars, bass (which wasn't there at all for the first few songs) and samples were just white noise half the time, even thru proper musicians earplugs. The backing mics may as well have been unplugged. The Enmore sucks for metal?

Good: RVP. And Dev's voice. Dunno if its just that he doesn't smoke anymore or what, but he fucking nailed everything, even those tricky rising screams in Deadhead. Amazing.

The end section of By Your Commands was a bit iffy :D

First metal band i saw live and it DID NOT fail to dissappoint!
Fuck.. i walked in on Contrive to begin with and thought they were pretty sweet,
then Devin began and i was fucking awed...

I am SO glad this was the first band i got to see and believe me...
next time he comes here i will be the first to get tickets..

Just on the subject of the show.. did anyone get the final song on video?
Im real interested to hear it again with him singing the whole thing instead
of the female vocalist.. he fucking rocked..
Kudos DTP.. Kudos!

The theatre is fine for metal. I spoke to Devin after the show (see my post with the pic on the first page of this thread) and he said that they are still having some issues getting the sound right for the shows.

RVP kicked ass. Many kudos to him. Beav and Dave were great too, although sometimes too low in the mix.

Did anyone else notice that Beav's vocals were completely inaudible during 'Bender'?

Just got back to Dubbo from a long drive.

I'm still amazed, Devin was spectacular! (I was probably one of the few not wearing any metal shirts...I wanted to but unfortunately I've become a fat bastard.) Loved the Ziltoid bits the most. I was blown away from the fact Dev could play the shedding lead parts and nail the vocals spot on at the same time.

A few points from me...

1. Now that I think about it, I agree with couple of people on here - the sound was terribly mixed. Towards the end all I could hear was a very low-mid rumble, like something was feeding back. Might also have a bit to do with the venue - its probably not designed with a metal concert in mind.
2. Andrew Haug needs to stick with his show. Contrive were fucking terrible. It sounded like they replaced the singer with Whintey Houston.
3. A few shirts in XXL would have been handy! (Or I could just not be a lazy fat bastard and hit the treadmill. )

But apart from that It was one of the best shows I've seen for a long time...and the only one I've been to in about a year. I hate being 5 hours away from Sydney. I miss living in Victoria, at least melbourne was a quicker trip.

Enjoy the show Melbourne! Haven't been to the Billboard but hopefully the room has a better sound.

I drove up from Canberra for the show... It was AWESOME!

Sure, as other people have mentioned the mix had some issues...
and whoever dug up "Contrive" should immediately go and bury them again! I'm hoping the vocalist was having an off-night, if he wasn't then he should stick to SingStar.

But all that aside, DTP took the stage and OWNED it!
Highlights for me:
All of it :-)
Seventh Wave, Life, Ki, Color Your World, The Greys...
For my other half:
The Addicted stuff... although she would have loved to have seen Hyperdrive! as well :-)

Don't be too long in coming back again, we'd love to see DTP touring for Deconstruction and Ghost next year.

I saw a teacher at my school there, which was awesome (Lloyd, I'm talking to you!).
The sound sucked. I thought it was my earplugs at first, but the samples were unhearable. The guitars were just noise, and you couldn't hear Dave and Beav's vocals. Why no Synchestra?
Apart from that, FUCKING AWESOME.

Everyone's pretty much said everything but I'll throw in my two cents.

Contrive: Fucking awful. Andrew has know proven he's as bad a musician as he is a DJ. Devin is apparently producing their upcoming album. I guess he loves a challenge.

Dev: Having seen every Devy tour this was the first to be an unabridged solo set. I'll split the show into the good and the not so good:

+Dev's voice: Holy fuck! He just seem to get better and better. Supercrush was a revelation. I suspect Deconstruction will have operatic vocals on it because damn can Dev nail it.
+RVP: His drumming is amazing as always but what was astonishing was the way he handled the drumming from the Hoglan and Ziltoid sessions. Kudos.
+Dev's showmanship. Hilarious and entertaining. I hope Dev had as much fun as we did.
+Songs: Some great ones but...

-Why were there so many popular songs missing? Vampira? Fluke? Hyperdrive? Storm? Instead we got far too many Ziltoid and Physicist numbers. ordinarily I wouldn't mind but not to the exclusion of better songs.
-No keyboardist and far too much reliance on pre-recorded segments.
-Sound mix was rather muddy.

I'm pretty happy overall and the negatives can be chalked up to this tour being a dry run for a proper one later on.

Just don't make us wait too long, Dev.

I was at the show, and I cannot complain one single bit. Even the songs I thought wouldn't be so good (Physicist) kicked ass live.

I met Devin himself after the show and got a photo with him (totally awesome). He said there was no Synchestra songs because there was a problem with the samples and the layering to get them right live. He said he would have wanted to play Pixellate at least. He also says he wants to put together a full blown live show with orchestra, choir and huge video presentations.

Some other observations; yes the opening band were terrible. Most of the girls in the crowd seemed to LOVE Ziltoid. Truth kicks so much ass, and Life was amazing.

Just noticed that Melbourne has had way more commentary on their show, so I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in about the Sydney show.

First thing is Dev, remember what you yourself have said in that D'addario video that's up on YouTube about paranoia generated by a bunch of possibly obsessed zealots who prowl internet forums.

But, hey you want feedback so here's some! I loved the show, really loved it. There's been some really good shows in Sydney recently, I saw Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree in the last couple months, so I have a little bit of other favorite music to compare your show to. Both of the other two shows were way more of a production than yours, but they are both known for that kind of thing. Especially Porcupine Tree cause they're touring on the Incident which is a double CD with one 40-odd minute song. Anyway, especially with your two new albums, the less 'showy' kind of show you put on was a pretty cool change, for me. It was like Addicted, a bunch of guys rocking out, rather than some epic theatre performance. So don't feel like you're missing something cause you didn't have a laser light show... you got the important bits right: the music.

You guys sounded awesomely tight to me. Of course, i was screaming my head off along with the lyrics so maybe I wasn't hearing anything properly. I was about 4 people back from the front, and about 1/2 between centre and stage left. I wore an earplug in my right ear, and I actually didn't have too many issues with the sound. I could hear all the important stuff well enough to be happy, so I'm not sure what some of the guys before are so disappointed about. I will say, i couldn't hear a word Beav was singing in Bender, and the fast stuff you were playing in Ziltoid started to get overwhelmed as the rest of the stuff swelled in.

Your vocals were kick-ass. Whatever you're doing to look after it is really paying off. I have always been amazed at your range, and being able to go from screams to clean in one song, good for the dynamics. Well done, must be a bit of work to switch back and forth live. Guitaring was good as well--I really dig the Strat style Peavey's you're playing. Not a huge fan of your new sig axe, gotta say, but the only V I've ever really liked is that Randy Rhoads Jackson so don't feel bad. But really, awesome job on the vocals. I love singing along with your gear and I know just how hard those 'rising screams' as someone here described them, in Deadhead, are.

Set list: well... if it were up to me, you'd be up there for like 4 hours. You've got enough solo work now that its really hard to pick a set list... But thank you for playing Deadhead, a song I'm sure you've played hundreds of times and might not want to play over and over, but fuck. I love that song. I really dig the big long songs, like Ki or Deep Peace, Suicide, stuff like that. Anyway yeah, it was a cool show, if a bit heavy on the ... well heavy. I told a friend you were touring on the two new albums, so he was hoping to hear more from Ki. I'm not complaining cause I thought the show was cool, but I like Ki too!! Maybe you should take an earlier break, then come out with a stool for a few laid-back songs, then build it back up again.

Anyway, I don't know if that's constructive at all or if it just sounds like the happy gibberish an enamoured fan would say... but hey. I'm attempting to be constructive at least!

What can I say ....

Devin, you are incredible. I have been to more metal concerts than I can remember, and your masterful performance is the ONLY one that had me not only feeling a nervous sense of excitement for weeks before the show, but the most elaborate feeling of satisfaction I have ever experienced after the show. As soon as I heard the Devlab line: "IMMM GONNA MEEELLLTTT YOU GUYSSSS!!!" I knew the night was going to be something beyond everything. Ever.

I was up the back just in front of the sound-desk, and from there the sound was beautiful. It is unfortunate that there are so many disappointed souls who weren't able to hear it from my perspective .. my brother and four of my best friends all agree that from that vantage point the sound was completely coherent, and, to be quite honest, electrifying.

The highlights of the show for me, personally, were:

Deadhead (my favorite song by any artist), which is a song I sing to my girlfriend when she's trying to sleep (come on, the lyrics demand it guys!).

ZILTOID!!!!! His invasion of the concert was definitely welcome, and I am so happy Devin played so much from the album (especially the Greys, possibly one of his strongest compositions ever). I get a feeling that Devin is really proud of this creation (Ziltoid), and he certainly displayed it during those songs.

Namaste! IF there's a song that needed to be heard live by Devy, it was this one ... Christ .. It made me want to scream my lungs out, and actually I think I tried to hahaha...

Life --- This is the first song I ever heard by Devin so many years ago, and from that point I was hooked ... hearing it live basically made me come (took a while, I know Ziltoid was trying, even with the offering of kittens ;-))

Ki ... what can anyone say about that? No show I've ever witnessed has commanded the undivided attention of that many metal-heads for so long .. I felt overwhelmed by calm for the entire duration, and in my opinion it was the best way he could have ended the night before the grand finale... although Awake!! would have been the perfec

Your vocals were the best part of the night --- flawless, electrifying, and inspiring. I could never sing the way you do, but I felt compelled to, even if it nearly shredded my voice.

Look, every freakin' song was a highlight for me. It was the dream setlist for me (though to be honest, Pixellate would have incurred multiple orgasms), and I can't wait for Devy to come back and play again.

I love you, Devin .. I think everyone on these forums does, even if they haven't seen you live... It's impossible for your music not to touch people deep within, make them feel something so profound that it brings a smile just thinking about it. It is an amazing feeling hearing your girlfriend singing Annekes parts from Addicted! while walking around the house :D

I've said far too much .. I'm more concentrated on how the music made me feel, emotionally, and physically. Right now? I can't listen to any of the songs on the set-list without feeling electricity coursing down my spine. I'm so happy .. I will be happy for the rest of my life. The only thing I want to do now is meet Devin and hug him (and touch his head >.>)

I'm sated.

Do you think Dev would mind it being posted?

There doesn't seem to be any problem with it as long as its on Youtube. I really want to hear a better quality version of 'Addicted' live. I think it sounds that much better judging from the one Nashville clip on YT.
