Fellas, I have one thing to say: BEST DAY EVER!!!

Here's a little reveiew of my experience: I came in early so I had the chance to meet the man outside the venue just before the show... The poor fella was sick (something in the food he ate) + he was injured from the day before. So he wasn't in very good shape but as fun and nice as always. He showed great interest in my Ziltoid hat and signed a few goodies, chit-chatted with us (there were ten of us fans).

Aeon Zen were really good I thought. These guys sure have some talent, great guitar and voice work. The audience wasn't too enthusiastic but I guess that's how it is when you're young and not very famous. Good work tho and I will definetly check these guys out more thouroughly.

The DTP show was really amazing. Although the Dev was sick in his stomach, had a sore throat, was injured and tired, he was motivated, energetic, funny, nice and everything. He pulled of a great show. The venue was reeeeally really small, you could fit max. 150 persons in there so it was very intimate. I was so close to Dev I could actually smell the sweat.

There was so much positive and great atmosphere. He wore my hat during By your command. Then we had the traditionnal "get on stage" for Bend it like Bender which was soooo awsome!!!! After the show, the band stayed there to sign and chat with us. Devy must have said "Thank you" like a thousand times and we were like "No Dev, thank you for coming to us!"

So THANK YOU Devin for everything, your music and enthusiasm has changed the lives of many, me included. So thx thx thx thx!!!
God, I feel like such a groupie, hehe!

Here are some pics. Guys, please post some vids if you have them ;-)

This will probably end up as one of the shows of the year for me!
It was way better than Graspop, especially the sound and setlist (Deep Peace, Bad Devil and Earth Day were all missing at Graspop)

Devin was in an awesome mood and funny from start to finish.

Hopefully he doesn't have any cold or stomache problems next time i see him, he also had a cold at Graspop (with way more snot all over the place, yuck!).
But the vocals were very good overall, i probably wouldn't have noticed it that he had a cold if he didn't tell us.

I heard via via that there were around 300 tickets sold in presale, so i'm pretty sure there were more than 150 people, but it's a small venue indeed;-)

Too bad i had a bus to catch, but i still managed to get my ticket signed and talked briefly to the bassplayer from Aeon Zen.

Just like Odysseas, I was there early. I can even say i was the first, and i even heard the soundcheck of By Your Command :D

The few people who were there so early noticed Odysseas immediately because of the loud 'Hi Guys!' :)

We talked a little, and it was awsome to talk to someone who loves Devin as much as me, and he even took a picture of me and Dev because i didn't have a camera, so thx again Odysseas!

It was a dream come true to meet my greatest hero who changed my life perminently, he's such a nice guy, always willing to chat with fans, take pictures with them and sign like everything they present them. As Od. already said he was sick and was injured, and i felt bad for him because you could see he was afraid he wasn't about to play a good show because of it. But anyway, he was as funny as always and felt in love with the Ziltoid-hat from Od.

About the shows now. The venue was indeed verry small, but it was jam-packed with huge Dev-fans, so nobody really cared, because wherever you were, you were close to Dev :)

I was verry suprised by Aeon Zen! The vocals blew me away, as wel the main as the backings. They fit wel together and you could notice they put a lot of work in it. The vocalist was by the way a verry cool guy, and he made me laugh quite a few times. The audience wasn't enthousiastic enough, because the lot of it were just waiting for Devin, but i can't blame them ;)

Then it was time for Devin Townsend, the one everybody was longing to see. After a hilarious ziltoid-speech the crowd wen't wild, because the man himself came on stage, greeting everybody he could reach. Then, they played. They played and blew everybody away. The whole audience was belowing the words together with Devin. It was so much fun and so well played, it seemed he was taking me to his omniverse :) He didn't left the stage for a minute, even during the 'short break'.

Only this one thing happened to me wich almost made me cry. He was playing Deep Peace, and he was looking at me. I tried to express al the feeling i had on that moment, the happines, the graditude... I think he saw it, because he reached his hand to me. Happy like a little girl i gave him a hand, but i didn't notice he was holding a guitar pick he wanted to give me. I didn't know, so i released my hand, dropping the pic. And the guy next to me saw it and immediately took it. That was a sad moment, but it was the gesture that mattered :)

Anyway, the part where i was on stage during Bend It Like A Bender made me forget all about it, and i was dancing like a fool :D

After the concert i went to him and i said thank you with all my heart, and said it was an honour to meet him. He said it meant a lot to him, and i left the place as the happiest person on earth. I will never forget this evening, and the signed ticket is already hanging above my bed :)

It was well worth the night in the trainstation :p

Thank you Devin, for doing all these things for me without you knowing, thank you thank you thank you. You helped me through a difficult fase, and conviced me to continue to play music. I hope one day we can jam together!!

Wow man i just wrote a whole book :p

See ya guys, greg

I was also at the Biebob gig. I couldn't be there very early due to work but managed to just arrive in time for Aeon Zen. The music was not what I expected actually. It's not my style normally but I could appreciate the set. Great musicians all around and great vocals. Too bad I didn't know the singer was Swedish at the moment, if so I would've had a small chat afterwards :P

About DTP's gig. The performance was amazing of course as expected. I liked the choice of songs and was blown away by the power of Color Your World! It sounded more extreme than on the album for some reason. Very intense and it makes me long for a tour featuring Deconstruction songs.
It was also interesting to see the musical prowess of all musicians besides Devin for once. I always like to check out how the other band members are performing when I go to concerts instead of just focusing on the "main man". Very solid playing by everyone of course and as a guitar player I was also impressed by some of the stuff that Dave was playing. Some cool, more difficult details here and there to make the guitars as close as possible to the albums.

The only thing that was a bit annoying was the lack of space inside (not the band's fault of course) and the sound. Some people seemed to like it but I moved around a bit and everywhere the vocals seemed to get drowned a bit as well as the guitars. I felt the same for the first band actually. The guitars seemed to disappear a bit behind the drums. Nothing that detracts from the show just a bit of a pity. Playing in a band myself I know how different venues can really make a big difference soundwise. I don't know if someone new to the band would've understood all parts.

Nonetheless, I was very glad that I could make it to the show and very classy of Devin to stick around after the set to sign things and take pictures with the fans. Despite not feeling well on top of it! It was cool to be able to exchange a few words with him about his production style (since he has been one of the sound guys whose production style inspired me) and get a picture.

PS The band in general looked awesome with those beards. Especially Brian who's continuing the skullet and beard tradition, hehe 8)

@ Retribution. It's true what you say about Colour your world. When it started I didn't recognize it right away and I was like 'what is this fucking death metal madness?' It's also true about the sound. The drums covered pretty much everything. I dunno if Ryan even needed the mics. But all in all it was one of the best shows I've been at, the best being Tuska...
