Great show, sound could've been a little better, but what do you expect of the chance that has had the same sound system for the last 20 years. Gotta love those 3 useless blown speakers hanging from the ceiling!

That was fun. Fell asleep during the local opener but otherwise happy bouncy fun time.

I was going to keep quiet about that, kinda BS those guys got 45 minutes. That's the one thing I always hated about the chance, the local openers always seemed to overstay their welcome by about 4 songs.
I bet they never heard anything by Devin Townsend until the show.

They came across as not quite ready for a set that long. Given time to hone their sound, figure out what they wanted to play, there's potential. It's always a shame with situations like that. In the event they stick around, it wouldn't be shocking for Moodna Creek to try and bill themselves as a heavy yet diverse semi Progressive metal core band. With the crossover between bands like btbam or reflux and the Devy fanbase, some positive name recognition here might help. Instead, they're the band who played too long in Poughkeepsie that time.

I was there, great show. You guys are a little too nice to Moodna Creek however. They were pretty god awful... The lead singer playing those solos was almost too much for me to take...although arguably preferable to the Staind/Disturbed rip-off vocals. The only thing progressive about them was the nausea I felt rising upon each subsequent song. The Ocean were pretty good though but the house mix had the guitars a little low and the whole thing was a bit muddy.

Anyway, back to Devin! Did the meet and greet before hand which was honest and genuine as usually. Dev puts you at ease and makes you feel a little less awkward of doing the whole meeting the band sort of thing. Dave, Beav and RVP showed up and signed some stuff and were good for a quick chat as well, which was much appreciated. If I'm honest I did prefer the acoustic set and Q&A session of the last time around but this was a good time as well.

Set list has been posted and for the most part it was similar to the last time around but felt a little more polished this time, probably due to all the practice they've been doing for the London shows. LOVED that RVP had a full double bass drum kit up there and he played it like he meant it. Perhaps was sick of his double pedal breaking on him? Who knows, it looks more awesome and that's what counts in metal right? As usual the sound cleared up tremendously when Dev took the stage and I had no complaints really.

I'm dying to hear more Deconstruction live (among other things) and I hope the special NY shows manifest themselves in the future. As it is I feel like London's calling but being strapped from a recent vacation and having no more days left to take off work are cramping my style.

Oh well, I got my DTP fix and that should keep me going for a few months more at least!

That's the chance for ya, same sound system same shitty mix. When Dev started the drums and rest of the instruments sounded really out of wack. After a few knob turns Dev straightened it out. Benefits of having your mixer integrated into your rack.

About the opening band, progressive? Nah. They have a lot to work on if they are going that route. If they're a bunch of dudes who just got together for the love of playing, then cool. if they want to make it....

My use of the word "progressive" comes from Moodna Creek's self promotion. I was
curious what the hell they thought they were achieving so I read and had a few giggles. It's not "progressive metal" in the sense of actually progressing so much as having a lot of ideas and not really structuring them too well. I've heard much worse shit promoted as being vastly superior. For a first gig by a new band, it was decent. For one together long enough to record a CD and print merch... Ouch.

VIP was decent. Given the strain Dev placed on his voice last time, I figured the acoustic stuff was out. Your swag looked to be fairly premium quality shit. I for one had a great time shooting the shit with Ryan, Brian, and Dave again. Plus seeing Seely was good. Also dug that fancy toilet with two flushing options.

It was a fantastic show to say the least. I was able to get to the front row at the beginning of the show and was within arms reach of Dev. Unfortunately that meant I had to endure a frontal assault from the supporting acts up front for 45-50 minutes each, but it was worth it.

Dev kicked ass during the show. He really makes an effort to make eye contact with people during the show, it almost feels like he is playing for you. My friend and I had water bottles on the side of the stage, and when Dev wandered over to that area we moved them off. He looked at both of us and very clearly mouthed "thank you". I am a little jealous of the setlists for other shows (Earth Day, Numbered, Heaven Send, the Way Home, etc) but we did get to see Regulator, which was awesome.

At the end of the show, Beav threw a pick and hit me in my glasses. This exact thing happened last year at the Gramercy too! What are the odds. He was cool enough to walk up and see if I was ok, but I excitedly waved the pick that I got and he knew things were cool

Also at the end of the set, Dev reached over the stage and shook the hand of EVERY SINGLE person reaching their hand out. Not a quick slap but a full 5 second handshake with eye contact and a thank you. This took him over five minutes to get through everybody. Honestly what artist takes the time to do that with his fans?

I really hope something about the "special" NY show gets posted sometime soon. The suspense is killing me!

I nearly forgot about that! I wasn't in the front there since I'm all elitist and like to stand in the back with my arms crossed over my chest, but when I saw him do that at the end of the show it brought a big smile to my face. It's the first time I've seen him do that, or at least to that extent where he really did spend a long time shaking hands and being gracious. Very cool move!

It's funny, maybe it's that I'm older or something, but seeing that impresses me more than seeing some kid whip a guitar around his body like he's got a wasp trapped under his shirt. I dig on stage antics but sincerity and appreciation are two things you basically never see anymore.
