Sorry, did we forget to mention that they don't have the Internet in Western Australia yet? Sorry. They'll probably get back to you in 10 or 15 years.

Awesome.

Sound wasn't the best. Meh. Still awesome. One of the Haug brothers came out during Bend it Like Bender wearing a mask and dancing on stage. Devin danced around the dance floor and bar with his guitar. Fun was had.

Ki, even with a backing track, was epic.

Devin came out for a quick chat to the audience after the house lights were up just to say thanks to everyone, seemed to genuinely appreciate the people coming out to see him, was a nice touch. 8)

Just got home then.

Wow. I was right up the front of the stage the whole night. Set list was amazing, seeing Devin smiling the whole time was the icing on the cake for me. So good to see he was enjoying himself!
I stuck around after the show til about 12:45ish, gave him a copy of my EP (thread in music projects section), and went home. I waited seven years for this show, and I was satisfied in every way (I was willing to blow off the crap job of the soundies; I was right up the front anyways).

Fucking awesome.

Loved the inclusion of Ziltoid. Devin really gave it all, he kept saying thanks to everyone for supporting him and being into it but fuck he deserves the thanks we were just reflecting his energy and brilliance.

He seems genuinely a nice guy, shook my hand from the stage, gave us all hugs after the show and signed our stubs. Wasn't just trying to 'process' the fans either.

Playing Ki was a great break, very personal. Bend it coming through at the end gave a great vibe to finish on.

Cannot wait for the next tour, going to be mental (more-so).

I have to thank Devin for coming all the way to Perth and putting on a 2 hour setlist. I really appreciate that.

However, he might as well have left the guitar at home, because we couldn't hear it. I have been to all-too-many concerts here in Perth where some incompetent or deaf sound guy ruins the mix, but this was one of the worst I have been to. (Did anyone here endure the sonic abortion that was Meshuggah at Capitol?)

What was the problem? Was it a local sound guy or did he have one touring with him? Devin was very aware of the poor sound and commented on it to no end. Wouldn't it have been better to stop the show and get the sound mix right rather than carrying on? Honestly, we could just hear drums, vocals, backing electronic and very faint guitars. The back-up guitar was basically turned off as far as I could tell, and there was a faint hum of Devvys guitar. We could hear the guitar faintly during quieter parts, but that was it. The bass sounded like ass.. it was just a monotonous drone. WTF happened. For an artist who produces albums that are sonic feasts with guitar-driven music, it was so disappointing to have such a terrible sound mix with the guitar buried in a monotonous drone.

Devin has so much energy, passion and love for the music and his fans, and that was clear. He's also funny as hell. But I was just so bitterly disappointed with it, after expecting a rich sonic tapestry I had turds shoved in my ears. The awful opening band had a better sound mix by far.

If it was a local sound guy, I will write the promoter and ask for my money back, because I did not get to hear the show I paid for.

Devin, please come back with a real sound guy. I will come back to see you if you promise it wont sound like shit!
Love you man!

Even with some sound issues, I was blown away. Great performance lots of energy, felt very good being able to get up so close. The setlist was great, really enjoyed Ki, Disruptr and the ziltoid sections. Good to see you enjoying yourself Dev. Look forward to your next tour!

Have to agree with Hobiewan about the sound. Dev knew something was up and was always trying to communicate with the sound guy to change stuff. Funnily enough we were just off to the side and it sounded pretty good, if only slightly light on with the guitars. maybe it was worse straight in front. Also agree the support band were absolutely terrible. The played ok and what not but the music was just freakin dull. Typical Aussie rock/metal yawnfest. Who chooses these bands??

Having said all that Dev himself was awesome. Heaps of feeling and right into it. Great range of songs. Ziltoid Radio and Ziltoid over the PA was funny as. Would have been icing on the cake to have Anneke Van Giersbergen there in person for the Addicted stuff. Loved hearing older Dev stuff too. Highlight of the night was probably the song 'Ki'. Was just Dev on stage with the backing track and he ppulled it off to a T. I appreciated that song MUCH more now. That show was a definite pick me up.

Thanks again Dev!!

Anyone got any pics or videos of the Perth show???? There were cameras everywhere..

I was right in front of Dev and I got pretty clear sound... I'd previously been to a couple of gigs at Metro Freo that had overpowering bass guitar/drums however I really didn't think Dev's was that bad. That includes the guitar, although perhaps a little on the quite side I was still catching most of it.

Mind you, I wear musicians ear plugs. I like to be at the front for most gigs, but my ears are pretty wussy and I just hear distorted shit if it's too loud. The plugs make it much easier to hear everything - (http://www.westernhearing.com.au/musicians.htm) not cheap though ~$200 for a set. Always the risk of losing them too, but fuck seeing dev is worth it.

However, may have just been at an antinodal point or something though...

What a show! I was also up front about 3 rows back pretty much right in line with Dev. Yea I think there were some mixing an feedback issues but i could hear everything pretty well it was fucken loud though! Couldnt hear my alarm clock to get up for work the next morning. The setlist was awesome although i kinda regret studying the setlist from other cities as i always knew what was up next but Seventh wave i did forget so that was a suprise. Earth Day was brilliant! The ziltoid radio was a nice touch with those pop tracks an little dig at lars ulrich. Was a top show dev was amazing. Cant wait for next year!

Thankyou Devin!

All Bar some freakish bottom end tone that rangout a number of times... (it was a bowel emptier) i thought the sound wasnt 'too' bad.. i think dev reffered to that feedback tone as a fucking hippopotamus.
I was in the front row copping the brutality from the left speakers... My wife thought the bass note was going to stop her heart.. lol.. she came out okay....

Devs voice is sounding awesome... if i compare it to the videos of the earlier years.. infinty and OM in japan etc. IMO

Dev twittered that he needs IEM or sumthing.. im sure he was wearing one (in ear monitor?)

Devs energy was brilliant... jumping off stage.. teasing the security guys... at one point basically pushing the bouncer out of the way so he could get back on stage... (on ya Dev!)

whos the dude that stage dived??! YOU CHAMP!!! hope you werent kicked out.

Loved the Ziltoid radio... funny as. I thought the setlist was awesome! Tho maybe a shorter song off terria to allow for maybe a little synchestra (i know technical issues with that album) or maybe a little more physicist.. Though I DO LOVE Earthday... so IMO the Setlist was great...

And in a fans opinion a 2 hour setlist aint too long.. we loved it man!!

Downsides?? they werent selling beer after the last song.

Loved how happy the humble dev looked when he came back out on stage after the show to appease his frothing fans chant. Thankyou Dev for working Your Balls off to bring the music to Perth.... And doing it in such a brilliant fashion... the Show rocked!!!

metropolis speakers have always been and always will be shit, its so they can thump their mainstream 50 cent bullshit to the clones on saturday nights.
say what you want about the sound. devs energy was all i needed to enjoy that show, and i went to sydney so i know what he sounds like with a pa system not maxed out
another say what you want goes to the haters of contrive
they seriously put them selves out there the whole tour, i met the bassist Tim in fremantle after the show and he was so thankful for all of us just being there. they have made
a start which is more than most can say.
to be completely honest it was possibly the best week of my life.
dev dont be shy. you definitely have a support base here in australia
