Klimt 1918 - Dopoguerra

Image

I discovered this this Italian band sometime last year after reading a review about this CD. I read that their music sounds like it was influenced by bands like Katatonia, The Cure, Coldplay, Anathema and U2 and it does sound like that. Their stuff is more upbeat than Katatonia's music but still not really happy music. You should still give them a try though if you like Katatonia's latest stuff. You can check out some songs here: http://www.myspace.com/klimt1918

Anekdoten - Gravity

Image

Can't remember when I checked out this band but it must have been about 2 years ago. Anekdoten are from Sweden, one of the world's centrals of melancholy. Imagine Katatonia's "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" and King Crimson's "In The Court Of The Crimson King" in one record and you kinda have an idea what this sounds like. Beautiful but sad stuff and definitely music for rainy days. If you enjoy the last 3 Katatonia records and love a nice 70's prog atmosphere in your music, then check out this CD!

Chill out! There are just some spoken word parts here and there that may remind some listeners of DJ Bobo. My point was that they are a totally over the top crossover band (and perfect at that).

Just check them out (start with the video-link I posted).

Dude, I'm sorry, I'm stupid. I thought YOU liked DJ Bobo, now I see that that list is what Waltari is all about. Silly me.

Right now I'm REALLY digging Boris. Saw them live with Sunn O))) last night in Chicago (rocking the Accelerated Evolution T), and although Sunn O))) was the highlight, Boris was plenty amazing themselves, playing plenty of drone, but also throwing in a lot of their more rocking stuff as well.

Here's a link to download some cool music, by a band called Thunderosa! (not active anymore, it looks like the guy writes some law-related book).
I first heard one of "their" song on lastFM's Secret Agent, then after a bit of search on the net, I found this site which hosts 13 of their songs.

And they're great, not sure what the genre is, some western spaghetti rock'n'roll or something. Could fit pertty well in a movie soundtrack. There are instrumentals and songs with lyrics.

(the site belongs to a musician/singer/whatever of the band, it's not illegal)

WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS?!

D:!

Anyway.

Green Carnation

"Green Carnation is the creation of former Emperor bass player Terje Vik Schei (aka Tchort), founded before Tchort joined Emperor. It eventually split, with the remaining members creating avant garde black metal band In The Woods..."

"Green Carnation are from Kristiansand, Norway. They formed in 1990 but did not release their first album until 1999. Their style is most often described as progressive doom metal, though their more recent material has been tending away from the 'doom' side. This is perhaps best exemplified by their latest album, 'The Acoustic Verses', an all-acoustic album almost entirely devoid of the doom metal sound of their previous work. "

I got into them because they were in the top ten similar artists to DTB on last.fm, also one of their albums contains a song which lasts 1:00:06 :O

I recommend The Mars Volta to everyone here... probably the most Devin Townsend-ish music I have heard (insane, original, abrasive, ridiculously talented vocalist, atmospheric)

Mars Volta's music is interesting, but the vocals kill it for me. It's hard to listen to.

In other recommendations, check out Finland's Shape of Despair if you want good atmospheric doom metal. Shades of... and Angels of Distress are doom masterpieces. Mysterious, bleak, and melancholic describe the mood of these albums.

Ehh I wouldn't compare TMV with Dev at all. I like TMV, but I think their latest was overwrought, and not as good as their first album. But still, I don't see any similarities between the two (no, I'm not just being a fanboy!).

But I'll take this moment to recommend the Russian Circles debut, "Enter," to everyone. I saw this fairly new band open for Pelican and Mono several weeks ago...and I was blown away. I got their album, and was even more impressed. It's surprisingly tight and well written. They're completely instrumental, and if you like Mono and/or Pelican, you'd probably dig them. They're quite unique, though. Very intense music. The album will most likely be in my top 5 this year.
