Ehh I wouldn't compare TMV with Dev at all. I like TMV, but I think their latest was overwrought, and not as good as their first album. But still, I don't see any similarities between the two (no, I'm not just being a fanboy!).

for me almost everything about TMV was similar to Dev - my first impressions (pretty much being overwhelmed by the volume and number of things going on), the fact that they're emotional, abrasive and just plain weird, and that now they're one of my favourite bands. I mean they even go into ambience in between songs.

I recommend The Postman Syndrome too if you can find any of their stuff, I think Terraforming is only available on their website (http://www.daywithuotdawn.com) but it is hella worth it.

Yeah, and I think that was their downfall on FtM. It sounded forced...like they were thinking "Hey, we've got about 60 minutes of music...but a CD can hold 80...let's throw in some half-assed ambient/noise sections, just because we can!" Don't get me wrong, I like stuff like that...but only when it's done well. It just make listening to FtM tiring. Those elements were better used on Deloused, imo.

I think it suits the album well, the only time I don't like it is the four and a half minutes at the start of the title track (which wasn't on the actual album anyways but was meant to be the first song), it's also the only time you can't skip it very easily . On The Widow and Cassandra Gemini they do it for a little too long as well. I've tried skipping it and going straight for the end of The Widow to the shredding at the start of L'Via L'Viaquez just doesn't work. Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore loses pretty much all of its power without its intro.

I think overall they didn't do it perfectly, but it enhances the album more than in detracts from it, and if you don't like it it is pretty easy to skip (i deleted the ambient song song without the awesome saxaphone solo on Cassandra Gemini from my mp3 player and it made the song quite a bit better).

Just reiterating Godspeed You! Black Emperor kick almighty ass. It's the more powerful music i have listened to ever. If you like it check out Thee Silver Mt Zion, pretty much the same people but a bit different. Horses in the sky adds vocals and many thought it would ruin it, but the amateurishness of them pushes the music furthar I think. Check it out!

Rebel Meets Rebel

Dime's 'during Damageplan' side project, this is Dime, Vinnie and Rex with Country legend David Allan Coe on vocals. Think of Country & Western Pantera, and you're pretty much there. It was recorded on-and-off around four years ago, between touring schedules. It's heavy, dirty, with a southern drawl, and you can almost smell the cheap whiskey fumes through your speakers. It's weird, but it works. And damn it boogies !

The band is Estradasphere, and they're from California. The music is very similar to Mr. Bungle - not quite as spastic, but it's well done all the same

I like these guys, probably moreso than Mr.Bungle just because they're so damn fun and dancy. Ididn't like their latest album much because there was too much parodying and not enough awesome stuff.

Hammers of Misfortune - an amazing band who in some ways are breaking boundaries and treading new ground musically and in some ways are giving you a blast to the past with 80s metal and 70s prog elements too. Highly recommended to everyone

I got into a NWOBHM mood lately, and found some other awesome old NWOBHM bands. This is one of them.. if you enjoy the genre you should definitely enjoy this and their other albums.

Witchfinder General - Death Penalty

Another NWOBHM band. Good stuff, check it out.
