Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

Red Harvest - Harvest Bloody Harvest

Image

Wow! This DVD kicks ass big time! If you love Red Harvest's Albums then just wait till you see what they are like live! I was lucky enough to have seen them live last year at the With Full Force Festival (there's a bootleg vid of one of the songs they've played at that festival on this DVD) and it's good to have that live force on DVD to pleasure my eyes and ears whenever I want. For those who don't know Red Harvest, Just imagine a Black, Doom and Death Metal'ish version of Fear Factory during their Demanufacture period...I guess that kind of works. The sound of this DVD is awesome and you can't complain about the camera work either. The concert is only a little more than 50 minutes long because it was recorded at a festival in Oslo, Norway but it's worth every penny, trust me. So check it out!

Melechesh - Emissaries

Image

This is a pretty damn cool mix of Black and Thrash Metal with middle eastern flavour...very cool stuff and musically really good! Just discovered this band from Israel a few weeks back and every open minded extreme metal fan should give them a try.

Here's a song if you wanna give them a chance:

I only skimmed the thread, so if I recommend something that's already been recommended then I'm sorry!

Alarum - Eventuality
Image

Jazzy, technical "death" metal in the vein of Cynic and Atheist. Very well done, plenty of headbangable parts as well as smooth jazz passages.

Coprofago - Unorthodox Creative Criteria

Image

Another band in the vein of the early jazzy/death founders. This album actually seems to be a bit spit up. The first half is VERY Meshuggah-ish and the last half does have a very jazzy overtone. I feel it's better than their album Genesis, but that isn't too bad. It's much jazzier. Too bad their myspace page only has one song from it (An odd song at that) Listen to them anyway.

Hieronymus Bosch - Artificial Emotions

Image

A technical death metal band with good taste! They certainly don't go too over the top with crazy solo'ing and drumming, but it's there. It's hard for me to decide which album I think is truly better, so I recommended the one I feel is more accessible.

NEGURA BUNGET - OM

Image

Wow, this one came out of the blue...a very surprising Album by this Black Metal band from Romania. This CD has pretty much blown me away and I enjoy it from start to finish. This is what Ulver's Bergtatt would sound like in the 21st century. Om combines Black Metal, Folk and Ambient with lots of atmosphere and just doesn't seem to get boring. I have been listening to this non stop since I bought it. So if you like original music, are neither averse to Black Metal nor Ambient and can accept a fusion of both then this is definitely an Album for you to check out. For me definitely in my Top 3 of this year's Albums. You can listen to a sample of this CD at this location:

Anaal Nathrakh - Eschaton

Image

About time that I recommend this one. Eschaton is (next to Synchestra) 2006's Album of the year for me personally. It's just killer from start to finish. I don't think I've ever heard anything as extreme as the first track on this Album 'Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes'...just saws your head off! Eschaton combines Black Metal with Grindcore like only Anaal Nathrakh can do it! And it's not like it's just pure noise. You will find amazing, disgustingly beautiful HYMNS on this CD such as 'Between Shit And Piss We Are Born' and one of the best songs of 2006 'When The Lion Devours Both Dragon And Child' (you can find that on their myspace page) with aweome clean sung choruses like only Dave Hunt can sing them. Well, if you don't know Anaal Nathrakh yet then do yourself a favour and go here http://www.myspace.com/anaalnathrakh and change that!

Yakuza - Samsara
Image

One of my favourites of 2006. was released in January i think. so i ve had it for a while. Theyre an Experimental Jazz/Metal band from Chicago and their music has so much to it. Technical, soothing, incredibly heavy and... THEY HAVE A SAXAPHONE! Cancer of industry is an awesome opener and the whole album follows suit of being awesome.

Ps. Theres a video of the song "Back to the mountain" on the Myspace page and it fuggin rules \m/

If you think you might need a little lesson in ROCK, choose your teachers wisely:

Image

I recommend both, their self-titled debut as well as the Pick Of Destiny - soundtrack.

Belphegor - Postapokalypse VI

Image

Black/Death Metal from Austria. Reminds me here and there of Behemoth (musically) but their stuff though is different. Very blasphemic so if you have a problem with that, this is not your music! Some of the lyrics are sung in English, some in German and some in Latin, at least as far as I can remember. If you like a nice mixture of Black and Death Metal then you should give this CD a try.

Satyricon - Now, Diabolical

Image

Well, to be honest...ever since this CD was released I did not like it AT ALL. But just afew days ago it all of a sudden clicked...I listened to the song K.I.N.G on a compilation 10 times in a row and all of a sudden I loved it. So I picked up the Album and loved it too. I always thought this type of Black Metal is too primitive for me but somehow I can appreciate the strength of this CD now. For the most part I'd call this Black 'N Roll rather than Black Metal. But this Album, unlike others of that genre, sounds good and has a good production...that's what keeps me away from Darkthrone for example...the terrible production. Anyways...check this out! It may not click the first time you listen to it but at some point it may click!

Moonsorrow - V: Hävitetty

Image

I got into this band a few weeks ago after I got a bit more into the whole Pagan/Folk Black Metal genre, picked up Verisäkeet and loved it. But their new Album is even better. It consists of 2 songs that are about 30 minutes long and they are majestic! I read that the first song is supposed to represent ice and the second song is supposed to represent fire...and you can here that. V: Hävitetty (souds cute to my ears, heh) does not get boring at any point and is exciting from start to finish. If you like Folk Black Metal then this is an Album you HAVE to check out.

Keep Of Kalessin - Armada

Image

Armada is definitely one of the best Albums of 2006 and definitely one of the best Black Metal Albums of the past years. It's progressive and the riffing is insanely fast! Actually, although I suppose it is part of the Black Metal genre, it is not just that...you will also find Thrash and Death Metal on this record. My personal favorite song in this CD is 'The Black Uncharted' which is quite a hymn in my opinion. You can listen to some of their stuff when you follow this link:
http://www.myspace.com/keepofkalessin

Ikuinen Kaamos - The Forlorn

Image

Here's a nice little underground tip for you all. Ikuinen Kaamos sound like they have listened to a lot of Opeth because you can hear that in their music. The Forlorn basically sounds like Opeth without clean vocals...the Death growls are deeper, Black Metal and Black Metal screams were added. That gives you an idea what this sounds like. This band could get quite big oneday if they continue to create such awesome music. If you love Opeth than you should not miss this Album.

Enslaved - Below The Lights

Image

I just recently discovered enslaved for me personally and I'm loving them more and more. I only know a few of their Albums but my favorite of those so far is 'Below The Lights' which is also one of the BEST Black Metal Albums I've ever heard...actually one of the best things I've ever heard. It combines Black Metal with 70's Progressive Rock and is anything but easy listening but it's so amazing once it sinked in. Just the song 'As Fire Swept Clean The Earth' itself is fuckin' monumental. In just two weeks, Enslaved have become one of my favorite bands. If you appreciate good music then there's no way around this band and this Album. And don't let the whole 'Black Metal' thing scare you off if you don't like Black Metal because 'Below The Lights' is MUCH more than just that. You can find samples on it at this location
http://www.osmoseproductions.com
and you can find samples of their last 2 records here:
http://www.myspace.com/enslavedmusic

Agalloch - The Mantle

Image

Another band that I have recently gotten into is Agalloch. I decided to recommend 'The Mantle' since I like this one better than their new CD (so far), although that one is awesome too. This is definitely music for people that like Katatonia. It's dark, melancholic and experimental music. There's also a tiny bit of Black Metal in there but really just very little so even if you don't like Black Metal, it should not bother you. Autumn and Winter were created just for such music! You can listen to some songs at this location:
http://www.myspace.com/agalloch

Alchemist - Austral Alien

Image

I just recently rediscovered this great album by this Australian Psychedelic Metal band..I guess that term describes their music best. An Album such as Austral Alien is hard to desribe. I read in other reviews that you can hear Voivod, Pink Floyd and Fear Factory (the more quiet songs) in their music but I'd also say that people that enjoy bands such as 'Isis' or 'Neurosis' could enjoy this. This band definitely deserves more attention. If you like the bands that I just mentioned then you should give this Album a try. You can find audio samples at this location:
