Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

And here's another find:

Von Hertzen Brothers - Approach

This stuff is just... amazing. They are easilly the best finnish rock band out there. I'm not too sure is that the right category for them because the music sounds so free from all the rules. Maybe it's some sort of alterantive/rock/proge or something.

Anyway check them out.

Especially this song has haunted me the past few weeks:

French metal band, with a female vocalist, who grunts... whee.
I like it

Von Hertzen Brothers really suprised me this
year in Provinssirock festival.
I really knew nothing about them until I saw them play.

It was a lot different that I had imagined, but it was
truly a great thing!
I will check them out, and I suggest you guys
*pointing at you behin the screen, reading this*
do the same!

Scott Matthews. Heard him on the radio the other day and was stunned. Which, sadly, hasn't happened for a long time! You can hear the Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake influences in there, amongst others. Beautiful voice, excellent guitarist, fine songwriter.

Maybe someone can help me find some new bands. My favorites are Devin Townsend, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Dream Theater, and Plushgun.

I'm only on track 4, but yeah... Better than Everyone Into Position, I'm not sure how it compares to Effloresce yet.

Oceansize - Frames :D
Out late September/early October.

Like Oceansize... probably a bit of Muse and Radiohead in there. They've been support act on a Porcupine Tree tour. New album (and first album) produced by the guy who produces Foo Fighters... Just look at the MySpace site, it has a 'press biography'. And while you're at that, just listen to the songs :D

Last.fm states similar artists: Dredg, Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, The Mars Volta, A Perfect Circle...

They're probably most famous for this Orange ad:

And apparently one of their songs was used in the TV series The OC.

A cool "folky" hard rockish band. Weird lyrics, but an awesome vocalist.

Hey guys, just thought I would bring this band's name to the fore again as I've been listening to them pretty solidly for a couple of weeks now, and they're a mighty fine band. I know there are quite a few dredg fans amongst us and Fair to Midland should definitely appeal to people with this sort of musical bent. The singer has a huge range and they're creatively ambitious and inventive. Highly recommended.

Fair To Midland is great!
I got their cd a month ago, really interesting stuff. they dont sound just like every other band. something that is a problem with lots of new bands, they all sound the same.

Also check out Bad Acid Trip, they are on the same record label as FTM

Tony Macalpine for those who like their guitar virtuoso's. Well, actually, he's also a piano virtuoso ;) His music contains more than the mindless shredding many fall prey to (ranging from jazz/fusion to neoclassical). He was also a "background" guitarist and keyboard player for Vai during a tour a while ago. Together with Billy Sheehan on bass.

Artist suggestion - Album suggestion

Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane

You should definately like this if you like Dream Theater. Last.fm puts Devin Townsend one of the top similar artists, but I don't see the similarity.

Jesu - Silver

Sort of similar to Sigur Rós, somewhat heavier at the same time.

Ayreon - The Human Equation

Awesome progressive metal, this album has Devin Townsend, James LaBrie of Dream Theater, and also Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth amongst others on guest vocals throughout the album.

I'm assuming you know Opeth so I won't recommend anything from them, yet.
