Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

Steve Wilson is 42. Think he's on Geritol yet?

I've yet to attend a prog show where the majority of the crowd is under 30. That type of music doesn't usually appeal to younger kids.

Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip on Friday. They were fantastic, and just seemed like really cool guys as well during their bits of banter with us lot. Crowd was fucking jammed full of shitheads though, which sort of dented the enjoyment of the evening a little bit. Support act, B. Dolan, was also surprisingly entertaining. Really liked his style. Glad to hear from them as well that they'll always culminate their tours in Ireland cos they think we have the most energetic crowds. We get so few good acts here tis nice to hear that sort of stuff! :D

Nils Frahm is a fucking genius. His performance was simply baffling, and I think he improvised most of it, too. Absolutely astounding.

Balmorhea weren't bad either, played some nice tunes so it was an amazing evening overall :)

Ok, something to complement the Tesseract thread. Seen Tesseract and Jesu with a band called Black Shape of Nexus thrown inbetween (as a part of Asymmetry festival in Wroclaw, a big event with ton of mainly experimental & post metal stuff).

I'll start with the most important - Tesseract's new singer's pretty good. Sure he has that young-ish timbre and makes all sort of funny poses while singing (as seen in Deception video), but technically he's awesome, singing perfectly in pitch and having impressive lungs, holding really long notes without losing his breath. There were some backing tracks, but used rather subtly and most of the work was on the dude. I don't know how 'bout you, but I like to see people being good at their stuff, so additional star for them. Rest of the band was good as well, including Hugh Grant on bass, yelling to the microphone from time to time. There was "April song" (I admit it sound weird with new singer), "Deception" and "Concealing Fate pt.1" in the setlist and some stuff I didn't know (hard to consult it with the album hur hur). Bottom line: if you can suffer the new vocals, go see them, they deliver.

A pikchur:

(notice the Hugh Grant behind the vocalist)

Black Shape of Nexus was droney band which sounded like something between speed metal version of Sunn o))) (playing up to eight notes per minute) and Led Zeppelin. And by "Led" I mean "Led by Satan". They had funny dude doing incredible growls and guitars emiting something close to infrasounds. They were good in what they were doing - in short: it was vile, insufferable and sucked the life out of me.

Then there was legendary Jesu, in shape of Justin K. Broadrick himself, bass dude and a laptop. Music is damn atmospheric and movies projected behing the band were adding tons to the mood, JKB sucks at singing, though - and I hope he will buy some new tuners to his guitar, because it sounded like he was loudly re-tuning it between each song (those breaks were pretty long, some cheeky bastard in the audience started to sing the sound of tuned strings at some moment) so I have to say I was disappointed a little bit. I may be conditioned to expect a technically proficient band, though - brief look at the lastfm comments shows audience loving them and hating Tesseract :>

I saw Before The Dawn (FI)

something that started as a one man show, has developed into one of my favourite
underground fave bands.
Dark, melodic, a bit gothic metal with good growls and nice clean but somehow haunting vocals
and a frontman so hot I could melt.

"My Darkness" album in 2003 was a soundtrack for my life for a long time.
Not the best songs, best production or all that, but you know the feeling when something hits you straight at heart once, and ever really lets go.
Whenever you hear a song or album that has "soundtracked" you, it becomes a part of you.
And My Darkness and 4:17 right after it totally pushed a button in me.

Here's something from the bio:
"...After Tuomas wrote a few songs, he recorded a demo in the frost of winter 2000, named "To Desire Part 1", all by himself; He played all instruments (guitars, drums, bass, keyboards) and did the vocal part. "

I give him a lot of respect, and also, I am lucky enough to know him and I can tell you, he's one of the few people on this earth that I respect like that, and look up to as a person and a talented musician.

oh, he's hot 8)

fix'd.

Yeah, he's done a loooooot of stuff with a looooot of different bands, if you find this interesting,
you can also check out Black Sun Aeon, that just published a double-cd "Talviyö" (winter night) and "Talviaamu" (winter morning), it's wow.
He plays drums in Final Harvest and has also a duo band with a female vocalist, that's called Teargod.

Last show I saw was Tears For Fears and Spandau Ballet! TFF were brilliant, Spandau were good showmen but have always been lacking in good tunes apart from their big hits.
