Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

The Power Trio, when it works is a band format that has a peculiar purity in my book.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Cream. Rush. Motorhead. The Police.

Not so many these days. Muse are pretty good example.

Any takers?

Rush will always be my favorite power trio, and I always dug motorhead, but I generally love them dueling guitars, mang.

Primus and Dinosaur Jr. round out my 90s power trio preferences, I guess.

Totally agree that there is something perfect about it when they're done right....and it's ALL about Rush when it comes to this subject

Cog's pretty great. Or was, I think they're disbanded now. Which is a shame, "Sharing space" is awesome.

Rush, King's X and Reuben are pretty much my power trios of choice. Nirvana too, technically speaking, although I think they usually had a second guitarist (Pat Smear?) for live shows.

Pat joined the band while they were on tour. Someone (Dave maybe?) had told him Nirvana was always meant to be a 4-piece band.

Blue Murder (ignore the 4th member there):

For a while the band Revocation was only 3 guys, they have a rhythm guitarist live. Kind of a modern take on thrash metal.

I'm not certain what constitues "power trio", but intuition tells me three dudes with laptops are pretty far from it.

Russian Circles are surely a trio, not sure about the "power" bit. I think also Jesu might be a trio from time to time, though when I saw them there were only two dudes and a laptop.

Also Budgie.

Celtic Frost (before Cold Lake).
Motorhead's been mentioned.
Hate Eternal are making it work at the moment.
