It's so exciting we even have a thread expressing how excited we are about it!

And here's one from months ago:

Pay attention, folks.

Ah but... that had less liklihood for people to actually check it out before its too late.

Most people are in the General Discussion thread most, and a whole new thread announcement is an immediate realisation for others of the happening, whereas if it was alerted in that thread, some people might have thought "Oh i'll check out that new comment later..."

Jesus Christ. One of the admins on here lives less than three miles from me. If I break the rules, s/he could come kick my ass directly.

Yup. Cybermartyr can come murder me with a literal banhammer.

But if I buy him/her enough drinks, I'll be able to post as much pornography as I want.

I'll have to find a way to get the other mods/admins out of the picture, though...

Nope. CyberMartyr/Doug hasn't logged in since April. He's pretty much defunct...cyberly, so to speak.

Why is he still an Admin? Good question. Everything's in quasi-limbo here due to an invisible webmaster who may not even exist.

Why are so many people against Christopher McCandless?

I'm really inspired by his story. Its a huge shame he died in the end, but if he had spent time learning all the survival techniques, that would've defeated the point for him. I think it would've ruined a large part of the spontaneity and adventure.

Want me to go find him?

It works pretty well. I figured that was an accident, but this forum seems to be less strict than a lot of others (probably because it's moderators actually have outside lives). And in the end, the whole thing seems to regulate itself for the most part. No spammers or anything.

Edit: HAHAHA DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS!

^^ Couldn't tell you! But I take your word for it.

This is a silly question, I know - but I'm new to photoshop, save for knowing the horrible art of LOL'ing pictures. But is there a 'flip' function? As in, if I wanted to flip or reverse the image, where would I find that?

I haven't read the book or seen the film, but I've heard very good things about both. I want to live in the wilderness for a while at some point. Ask any of my friends, I'm a jungle-woman at heart. I have it all sussed. But McCandless thought that too, I guess.

I don't like him in other ways. You're right about the fact that there was a lot of spontaneity and adventure about his methods, but I think not having a map or compass was nonsense. If he was willing to carry with him poetry he liked and other "luxuries" (proper clothes, convenience food given to him by people he met), he was just being foolish by not bringing them.

"I am exposed continually to what I will call the 'McCandless Phenomenon.' People, nearly always young men, come to Alaska to challenge themselves against an unforgiving wilderness landscape where convenience of access and possibility of rescue are practically non-existent. When you consider McCandless from my perspective, you quickly see that what he did wasn’t even particularly daring, just stupid, tragic, and inconsiderate. First off, he spent very little time learning how to actually live in the wild. He arrived at the Stampede Trail without even a map of the area. If he'd had a good map he could have walked out of his predicament. Essentially, Chris McCandless committed suicide." - Peter Christian, Alaskan Park Ranger. It's from this, which is worth a read if you're interested in McCandless.

I suppose he's a lesson to anyone who thinks the transition from a bed to a bush is an easy one... :?

On the layer of whatever you want to flip, click/hold ctrl+t and it'll turn into the free transform thingy... then right click it, and it should be there.

Hope that helps

Yeah I'd love to live in the wilderness for a bit, but I'd need to learn a lot more. How long would you be thinking of doing it?

I suppose it would've been good if he bought a map and compass, but only for emergencies (but I guess, thats what they'd be for anyway... I suppose he didn't think he would ever want to go back, or at least didn't think that far ahead). It'd have been crap to be exploring with the map in hand. One of the biggest thrills of adventure is coming across amazing things out of nowhere, isn't it.

The film is amazing I thought. Really delved into some deep emotions for me, it was intense, lol.

I wasn't aware there were people out there "against" him. Strange. Anyways, I read the book many years ago (also have seen the movie). His naivete and lack of preparation for survival out in the Alaskan wilderness were mind boggling. We're talking basic survival skills here. Maybe preparation would have made a lesser story, a less romantic one, but he DIED. And a slow, painful death, I might add.

I think Christopher had a warped sense of how the world actually worked. Kudos to him for attempting such an amazing feat, but he wasn't successful in the end.
