Laibach & Juno Reactor.

Laibach gave that totalitarian disco show I expected - complete with "triumph of the will" footage on screens and stuff. Lineup was all synth players and drummer (with electronic drums as well), but fortunately it was really live show without that much backing tracks. Not bad, if bit conservative. But

Juno Reactor - well, THAT was impressive. Psy-goa-whatever trance performed by a live band. There was a couple of African mentalists playing all sorts of African percussion, an MC, lady vocalist, drummer and two guitars - one played by a Juno Reactor main bloke Ben Watkins (who looked like an even more undead version of the Cure's Robert Smith) and the other by Japanese guitarist Sugizo (all Visual Kei, I think he gathered fair amount of girls in front of his part of the stage). Excellent set, ton of energy and band members clearly had a great time playing it, dancing around the stage and being generally bunch of nutters. Quality stuff, audience went completely crazy.

Would love to see Juno Reactor live! I still need to get their last one. Great stuff.

As for me, I saw Porcupine Tree last night and they were shittingly good. Crushingly precise at every moment. This will be the 6th time I have seen them...I think? They keep getting more and more interesting live.

Dream Theater- They were pretty amazing. I was sold when I saw a keytar.

Seeing Bruce Kulick in about 20 hours... should be pretty cool.

Then not much 'til next year.

Saw Kíla last Tuesday night, and they absolutely tore the roof of the place. Energy and atmosphere was out of this world and everyone was just going feckin mental for the whole thing, including the band members. Rónán Ó Snodaigh is possibly the best frontman I've ever seen, he's just so amazingly captivating on stage, not to mention being able to just do wonderful things with that battered bodhrán of his... Definite 10 outta 10.

Cynic and Edguy in Melbourne.

Both were amazing. One of the best shows I've been too.

Scale the Summit -- I only saw half of their set because I was late to the gig, but I didn't feel like I missed too much. Music reminded me of Guthrie Govan mixed with Animals as Leaders in a way. All in all, they were pretty unexciting, but they might develop into something good; they look really young.

Devin Townsend Project -- After about 45 minutes of technical difficulties, during which Dev did a 30-minute improv. stand-up routine, they played a short set, but it was awesome. I'll give the setlist as best I can remember it. During the concert, I couldn't help but think that Dev is one of the greatest performers I have ever seen live. The show was absolutely incredible once things got rolling.

Edguy, way too glam and old school for me, but are great at what they do.

Oh my, jealous! That's another band I need to see before I die.

Last band I saw was Dream Theater in NZ, spent the entirety of the concert wondering if I was actually there or just dreaming, hah. They didn't have anyone opening for them and although it was part of their Black Clouds & Silver Linings tour they were good enough to consider they'd never played here before, and played a large, varied amount of their songs. It was fantastic!

I didn't pay the $250+USD to meet & greet them afterwards, so I have no "OMG MET THEM" stories - my friend did though, he said they were decent blokes - even though he barely got to say a word to any of them.

Mike Portnoy was totally fondling and sniffing my friend's long blonde hair in the photo he had with them. Haha.

Last I saw was Dream Theater in Melbourne. I went to the second show, about 10 rows from the front. The band was almost flawless, except for a little miscue that Jordan had during a nice little improv section. I went to their show back in 2008 as well, and what struck me there was that the crowd for their 09 show was much more diverse, and they attracted new, older fans too, as well as kids who look to be about 13 having an awesome time with their parents

Pain of Salvation was the opener and they were on for an hour...not nearly enough for my liking! They were brilliant, and Daniel is just as good a live singer as he is in the studio. Not to mention an awesome frontman.

My only complaint was about the mix....both bands had double bass way too high, often to the expense of not being able to hear the solos. Bad.

Saw Birushanah last night. they kicked ass. end of transmission.

Massive Attack @ Brisbane Riverstage. Amazing show. Only complaint was it was a Tuesday so they didn't really smack the PA very hard but everything else about it was well wicked. 'Future Proof' off 100th Window was the undoubted highlight. 'Atlas Air' and 'Mezzanine' were stunning as well.
