The Oscars were all fairly predictable this year. No real surprises at all amongst the winners, for me anyway... Really glad to see Bridges win Best Actor for Crazy Heart. That film was truly awesome. Actually, that might provide the one thing I "wat"'d on, that the song from Crazy Heart that won Best Song wasn't really the best song in the movie. Oh well...

Yeah I noticed that was odd.

The Oscars were stupid and politically driven this year. I don't care if The Cove was amazingly put together, hollywood insiders felt they needed to support the cause of dolphins, because they're cute. If the cove had been about how dolphins are nature's assholes and that they gang up on and kill porpoises with glee because they enjoy doing so and that's the only reason, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't of won. If it had been about Giant Pandas, it also would have won. But not about endangered beetles in the rain forest, unless it was about deforestation.

The Hurt Locker was a good movie, but I literally wanted ANY of the other 9 best picture nominees (yes, even Avatar, though I'd prefer the other 8 to it) to win. The Hurt Locker was just vogue because Barbara Streisand can be smug and hand an award off to a woman, who did a fine job, but definitely not the best directing job of the year. But hey, all we give a shit about in the US is war right?

The only awards they got right were the nods for actors.

And The Hurt Locker deserved to lose in every category it won in.

Yeah, I agree with you about the Actor/Actress ones all being pretty solid. I had people I preferred to the winners for one or two, but I can definitely see why those who won, won. Also I'm just glad Avatar didn't win Best Picture, to be honest. There were films I preferred to the Hurt Locker, which I still really, really enjoyed but I guess the aforementioned politics did come into play on it. I dunno...

Highlight of the evening? Same as many awards shows this year.

Nah, 6 nominations and no wins. I was disappointed Vera Farmiga didn't get Best Supporting Actress cos she was my favourite of the bunch that were nominated.

I saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D last week, and liked it, although I found the battle scene at the finale to be over-indulgent, plus Christopher Lee deserved more dialogue as Jabberwocky. Still, visually worth it alone, and featured the nastiest Red Queen (of Hearts) since the 50's animation. I'm guessing that's how she got the job, it went something like this:

Tim: Helena, I want to try and do my next film without you, if that's ok.
Helena: OFF WITH YER HEAD!
Tim: All right, Jesus, I'll find you a part! Actually, you just solved a casting problem.

Anyway, I give it 8/10.

watched Ocean's 11 and 13 recently....yes, I skipped 12. I just don't wanna see that one again. I actually like 11 and 13, both are fun to watch.

I also watched one of my favorite movies from the 90's...Strange Days. Very cool Sci-Fi movie. Goes in a somewhat similar direction like movies such as 'eXistenZ', except that I like it a lot more.

and I watched 'Public Enemies'. Wasn't the overproduced, overpolished Hollywood movie that I expected, which is a good thing. It's no masterpiece but Depp and Bale are both doing a good job. And Marion Cotillard is such an eye catcher. And a fine actress too.

Bronson bald violent man with cock hanging out doing all sorts of shenanigans and getting his ass kick'd, that about sums it up. In some weird way I kind of liked it, although I'm pretty sure that I won't be watching it again...ever...

I caught it as a double-header with Inglourious Basterds, which, I must say is my favourite film of the past number of years.
I love the slight "Good, Bad and/or Ugly" vibe to it in certain places...and I'll add my hairy pudenda to the C. Waltz love-fest goin' down. Masterful effort.

Anyone seen The Men Who Stare At Goats yet?
It looks like a great cast, and seems to have just the kinda goofy "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"-ness I'm in the mood for.
