You know, you're seriously one of the only people I know of who has a constant fascination with string tension. Take Misha from Periphery for example, he prefers light strings on his standard (25.5'') 7 strings, and tunes down a half step, then the Bb to Ab. I do the same thing sometimes, but mostly just standard B dropped to A...though I use 10-59 on my 7.
Plus I prefer my strings to have a little bit of slack, makes bending easier on the fingers.
Also, why would you get a 28'' scale unless you're getting an 8 string? Do you have frying pans for hands?

I'm not really interested in 8-strings as I'm not much of a fiddly diddler. I was considering a 7-string but I decided not to. The reason I want 28" is so it can hold intonation if I go reeeaally low. However I haven't ordered anything yet, I'm going to try out the bass of a friend of mine just so I can get the idea of the scale length, if I can't handle it I guess I'll look at something else.

Shouldn't you just buy a bass instead? I'm told they go really really low.
