Totally understand people not bothering with Blu-Ray, but if you have a decent full HD TV and the right movie, it looks fantastic.

What I continue to hate about Blu-Ray is now everyone must make all special features in HD, thusly special editions on Blu-Ray are (apparently) awesome, and DVD practically gets the bare-bones treatment.
Example: Iron Man special edition DVD is awesome, and its Blu-Ray equivalent doesn't add much beyond definition, which suits me fine. Iron Man 2 special edition, however, gets the crap treatment on DVD - there's not even enough material to justify 2 discs, you could easily fit them all one! But the Blu-Ray version has shitloads of stuff to go through, all in HD (and some standard). A goddamn rip off. Which begs the question, why couldn't the DVD copy get most of these features even if only in standard definition? Why the fuck must I go out of my way to fork over nearly $1000 for a goddamn Blu-Ray player and corresponding TV just for a fucking movie, when previously DVDs would be packed with stuff to give you the full enjoyment? FUCK YOU BLU-RAY!!! I refuse.

Of course that is just my opinion.

That's fair enough. I got one free with my telly, only reason I have one... I wouldn't have rushed out and got one otherwise.

well, it wasn't much different when DVD's were the new thing and VHS was the crappy format. In 10 or 15 years the next new thing will come and we will all complain untill we all buy it anyways. Untill 2 years ago I also said that no one needs Blu-Ray and that it sucks and all that. That was untill I bought a new HD TV because my old tube TV started to suck badly and got me a PS3 and my first Blu-Ray. The movie wasn't even a good one (10,000 BC) and only cost me 4 Euros because it was part of a PS3 bundle. But even a poopy movie like that made me realize that I'd rather watch movies in such great quality for the rest of my life now :P
Just take something as classic as the original Dawn of the Dead. I popped in my ole DVD a year ago and on my HD TV it looked like a youtube video with shitty quality. Then I bought the Blu-Ray (it's one of my favorite movies and don't mind spending money for it twice...actually it was more like the 3rd or 4th time) and it looked soooo sweet! Watching such a classic movie on a nice, big HD screen in 720p or 1080p resolution makes quite a difference.

I saw Red last night, and fell asleep about halfway through. Since I don't remember a pretty large chunk of the movie, it could have had something to do with the quality of the film, or it could have just been the quality of my sleep the night before.

True, but I don't have HD. My WEGA is working fine, even though it weighs half a ton.

Agreement, though mine's a Konka (considering its weight, that's a suitable name). With VHS vs DVD I was fine to make the change because of the added interactivity and features DVD offered that VHS couldn't (at least, could only offer little). Just like CD vs tape.
Where DVD enticed you with its added bonuses, Blu-Ray extorts you by comparison (or exhorts, whatever). I see no reason why DVD and Blu Ray features should not be identical. Blu-Ray features that allow you to go exclusively online are all well and good, but the inscreen info, featurettes, alternate scenes, commentary etc. that can be put on DVD that are now going to Blu-Ray only I find to be the insult.
Sadly I may later join the dark side and get one when temptation becomes too great, but for right now I am adamant. Of course, I would not be surprised if the technology becomes obsolete in the next generation.
That's my soapbox.

Back to recent movies, I also saw Red, and thought it was great. Watching Helen Mirren with an array of automatic weapons is truly bliss. It's a movie that knows it's escapism, and doesn't pretend to be otherwise - and it pulls it off.

Well, I found RED quite entertaining. It's mainly Bruce Willis show, true, but man rocks so no harm done. One of the coolest moments was when Bruce steps out of spinning cop car and starts shooting, if thats not macho I don't know what is :D

I'm a bit late to this party but yes, Skrimp and I watched Red when I visited him last month and I too found it a big, entertaining, enjoyable bit of escapism.

watched a lot of movies while my PC was dead. Some movies I did not watch yet and some I have seen several times. The list includes The Hangover, Tropic Thunder, the X-men trilogy, the Bourne Trilogy, Gran Torino, Watchmen, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Friday the 13th (remake). the 3rd movie of the swedish Millenium trilogy, Children of Men

enjoyed each of them. Of course the Friday the 13th remake was your average slasher flick but it was better than I thought. Very much liked Watchmen although the Director's Cut may be a bit too long here and there. Gran Torino was very good too, very good story and Clint kicked ass as usual.

Red Hill, Australian western/tale of revenge. Good story, some great gunfights, plenty of blood, and moody settings. Plus an antagonist you really want to see win. A shame it's clunking at the box office here while films like Jackass 3 and Saw VII are piling on the dollars.

Splice Didn't know what to expect from this, and it turned out to be much more than your average freak/monster movie. Is it any good? Well, yes...maybe...kind of... Close but no cigar. And here is picture of Adrian Brody:

Rare Exports If you believe in Santa Claus, might want to skip this one  Hint, Santa is not that chubby cheery bright red clothes wearing chap from coca cola ads, but something else indeed...

I saw three movies in current release, and one on video this week. Here goes:

Little Fockers- Pure crap. I should have known better. Should've just flushed twenty five bucks down the toilet, and taken my wife somewhere where
we could watch paint dry. Also, Mecha-Striesand has an ego to rival Lebron James.

Black Swan- So-so. Not really my cup of tea, but others may enjoy it. :)

True Grit- Awesome. I'm not a real big fan of westerns, but I like a few, and this one is probably my favorite. :D

Video: Clash Of The Titans- I''m pretty sure the producers of this movie took the story-line from the original, used it as toilet paper,
and then wrote this abortion. I was so excited when I heard that this was going to be re-made... I guess I just wanted the original with
better FX. Oh, well. I know alot of people liked it, but I thought it blew a whole herd of chipmunk... I mean, they made the scorpions into means
of travel?... Really?.... Ugh, I must be getting old.

Dammit.
