Good choice! Penumbra: Requiem is skippable, though.

BTW, were there any swearwords in Mass Effect? I don't remember any in original language version - found the clips from the Polish translation now and Wrex swears like an absolute chav there. Maybe I missed some important switch in options.

Not in the first at least, but I think I recall an F-bomb in ME2.

I just finished ME and I don't recall any swearing at all, but ME2 has its fair share.

well, Activision still has the Call of Duty cash cow to milk. I'm sure there's gonna be a new one by the end of the year :P

apparently someone put a Beta version of Crysis 2 online. I did not play it myself but checked some vids on youtube and it looks amazing. And that's not even the finished version yet. Sucks for Crytek and EA though of course....

From the Crysis 2 footage I've seen, it looks pretty sweet. Crysis always was a game with great textures, too.

Anyway, I played through Mass Effect 2 and most of Vanquish, and I've got to say I really have enjoyed them both. A few criticisms, but overall ME2 was a great game, and I think I might investigate its replay value soon...

Vanquish was pretty awesome, just in how ridiculous and arcade-styled it is. Really enjoyable.

I played some of Fallout 3 (if you'll remember I bought these 3 games at once), though, and so far I am totally disinterested. Yes, the world is big; yes, there are a ton of things to do; yes, you have oh-so-many choices and items you can pick up. But I guess I'm supposed to want to do all the side quests because I'm so eager to play. I did one or two, but eventually, I wanted to move along with the main mission (which follows the story of "Hey, your dad's gone. Oh, he's not here; try somewhere else."). So the journey to Galaxy News was a serious survival fight all the way--and hopefully that's just the tip of the main story.

I hate to make a long and tedious post, and I'll probably give Fallout 3 another chance (might just start over so I don't have to deal with feeling under-leveled the whole game), but I'm curious to see if you guys know any titles like ME2 that have a pretty good balance of action and RPG elements. Fallout 3 seems a little heavy on the RPG for me. Thanks for listening, anyway.

Also, fun fact: I killed Moriarty for the info instead of paying him. Problem?

I recently acquired a bunch of old games on the cheap, one of which was Wolverine.

Damn. What a masculine game that was. I mean it was basic, and super violent, and even kinda repetitive, but I still loved every second of it.

I want the 3 original Spyros on DS so bad. No changes except using the bottom screen as a map and Start Menu perhaps. I JUST WANT IT.

F3 feels like it has most of the content outside obligatory storyline quests. I loved it personally, beginning the game feeling there's ton of unknown stuff to explore in every direction is ace. BTW I think I skipped GNR quest for some reason and it still was possible to advance - that's another thing I liked there.

Tried The Witcher? Maybe not exactly fitting your requirements but I recommend it anyway because it's great. Lots of twatting monsters with swords, not too much equipment, a bit of fiddling with leveling and skills (can't avoid that in RPG I guess). And the best bit - excellent, engaging and rather mature storyline. And great dialogues, though I'm not sure how well they survived translation.

In other news, completed the Red Faction: Guerilla. Was much funnier than expected. Granted, landscape was damn boring (maps differ mainly by color palette, and where the hell are dynamic lights?), but it lets you demolish pretty much everything around you, so was 20 hours of good fun actually.

Glad you enjoyed ME2 and Vanquish. ME2 does have a lot of replay value but you really only get the full experience if you also played ME1 and imported a character and all decisions from that game into ME2. May I ask if you got the game for PC, the 360 or PS3? If you actually got it for PC or Xbox 360 then I seriously recommend you to pick up ME1. It's technically not perfect but the story is awesome and you have the same amount of decisions to make and action with more RPG elements.

The only game that comes to my mind that is similar to the Mass Effect games on consoles is Alpha Protocol. But I warn you...the gameplay in that game is pretty broken. I'd recommend you to rent it first if you are interested at all. There's lots of decisions to make in that game with actual consequences for the story. The story is really good too with fun characters. But like I said, the gameplay is pretty broken.

There's Also Dragon Age: Origins of course. Kind of like a fantasy/medieval version of Mass Effect with no guns (obviously). It's from the guys who made Mass Effect. Maybe you want to check that one out.

Also...you should try to play Vanquish on Hard mode, if you have not done so yet. The game is actually even more fun on that difficulty setting.

I started to play Just Cause 1 a bit. Didn't really enjoy it too much so far but I think that is due to its age and obsolete controls and incredibly bad enemy AI. I'm sure Just Cause 2 will be a lot more fun.

I will probably end up restarting Fallout 3 and focusing more on side missions. I'm not really used to a game that doesn't point you in any direction at all, I guess. Anyway, I don't have a PC, so Witcher isn't an option. I like RPG elements--leveling, choosing your stats, items, etc.--but not when it's the majority of the gameplay. That's why I liked ME2: it had a pretty good balance of "action" gameplay and RPG-style conversation/leveling/etc. I suppose I like my games like Zelda, for the most part--full of puzzles and side quests, but with a definite main story and more subtle RPG elements (as opposed to having a HUD filled with 60,000 different adjustable parameters).

I should probably mention that before Fallout and ME2, most of my RPG experience came from JRPGs like Fire Emblem.

I played ME2 on 360, and I was thinking about getting ME1 also, since I enjoyed ME2 so much. My roommate says the combat system was clumsy and awful, though, so I'm a bit worried about that. Anyway, I've checked out most of Bioware's other stuff--I might give Dragon Age a shot, but my roommate has played that and it doesn't seem like I'd be too into it (I guess space is cooler than medieval stuff?). I might give Alpha Protocol a shot, now that you mention it, but what do you mean when you say the gameplay is broken? Just awful controls?

Also, Vanquish on hard mode is awesome. It's such a bizarre game.

I'd recommend Dragon Age also as it's by the same folks and I loved it, but yeah if you don't like fantasy it may not be your cup of tea.

The Witcher is fun too, but again it's lots of hacking and slashing and magic potions. Likewise the Morrowind stuff.

I just finished ME2 and loved it. I did feel like I had just gathered my team and suddenly we were off on our final battle. I will have to go through again I think, and see if I missed much.
