I finally got round to watching Natural Born Killers.

Man, that movie is so surreal, it becomes so terrifying without actually being a horror or anything of the sort. Only time I've actually been able to enjoy Dangerfield, creepy as he is in this. The bug eyes add so much to it!

Machete Thoroughly enjoyable. It's got my kind of humour, plenty of blood and over the top antics, Mexicans, Danny Trejo and Lindsay Lohan playing a parody of herself. Damn.

The Loved Ones We Aussies sure know how to make a fucked up movie. Saw, Wolf Creek and now this. Needless to say, it was awesome.

Trollhunter and no, this is not movie about internet...

Actually quite good, documentary (or mockumentary) style shot and naturally they say that it's for real. Edited from found footage it is. Maybe this would benefit from little more editing, some 10-15 minutes off and it would be perfect little movie. Story for short, group of students set out to make documentary about a supposed bear poacher. They follow him, he's reluctant to answer any questions and naturally they keep following him. And as you can quess from title, it's not bears that he hunts but something else. Naturally norwegian government denies any existence of trolls and so plot thickens.

Scream 4 – still had not seen it, but it was paired tonight with Rob Zombie's Halloween as a 2 for 1 feature, so I figured, what the hell.
It was better than I expected (I expected absolute shite), and was miles ahead of part 3; still not quite as good as part 2, but that figures. The intro and finale scenes were definitely the best sequences; the rest of the film had one or two jump moments, and some witty writing, but the horror, stabbings, and "scary" sequences were otherwise formulaic and not very impacting, unless you just settle for blood splatter (and a nice shot of guts). Still, it's a decent satire of both the "new rules" of horror - anything goes, and don't fuck with the original.
On that note, having not seen the theatrical version of Halloween's remake since 2007, as I own the director's cut, I was happy to have enjoyed it as much as I did when I first saw it (I prefer the unrated, but it's nice to see the first version on screen again).

Hahaha, I thought that movie was hilarious! :D Power lines will never be quite the same again...

...actually, I think that's the last movie I saw :| And it's several months ago.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Lately I haven't watched any comedy in a fair while, so this film was just the right thing to get me laughing. Its witty, smart, well-played and downright hilarious. As usual, its funny watching Steve Martin doing his hysterical and crazy stuff on film. Haven't seen a lot of Michael Caine but his performance was just as good. Interesting story too, lots of humorous twists and turns that are at most times, hard to predict. Overall, I think it was a good laugh for a sunday movie night :D

Snowtown - Australian film about John Bunting, one of the country's most infamous serial killers.

Easily the most fucked up movie I've seen this year (so far, that is). It revolves around a teenage boy named Jamie, who is a victim of pedophilia (as are his brothers), who is introduced to John, who seems to want to help him get even and becomes a father figure to the whole family.
It's gradually revealed that John is a sociopath, who along with his friends tortures and murders his victims, as he deems them scum who have it coming. Those who look into the story would find he hacked up the bodies and stored them in barrels of acid.
While it does get a bit graphic in parts, this is more psychological and character based, using the approach of what you don't see but inherently know to be more impacting than buckets of blood. Every performance is believable (Daniel Henshall, who plays John, is perfectly chilling, even when he smiles), and the tone of the film is relentlessly bleak.
In other words, perfect viewing for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Overall, I give it 9/10.

I so want to see Snowtown.

The Prestige Ho-ho-holy shit. Michael Caine is god. Christian Bale is amazing.

Just watched ep 9 of Game of Thrones and... WTF!?!? Won't do the spoiler thing, but for those who have seen ep 9... WTF!?!

Glad I didn't read the books in this case as the show is so bloody good. Next week's season ender should be quality.

Also, saw Super 8 the other day. The kids are the best thing about it, no question. Some quality performances there. Also love the setting (1979 steel town USA) as I am an eternal sucker for that period. I agree to some extent with reviews that state that the human story and the "other" story (again, avoiding spoilers here) are at times clumsily sewn together. In fact the "other" story ends up taking away from what the movie was doing so well early on. Also think it's time someone breathed new life into creature design in Hollywood. But overall I enjoyed it, mostly for bringing just a hint of ET/Goonies/Stand By Me style filmmaking back to the screen.

I know! I nearly cried. If the author had been there I'd have kicked him.

Some quick thoughts on recent stuff I have seen...

The Adjustment Bureau
This had potential but got swallowed up in the "It's OK, it's your destiny maaaaaan". The movie's premise would of have more weight if Damon's character's actions would of put the lives of millions at stake.

The Last Winter
Waste of fucking film. It had Ron Perlman in it but even he couldn't save this preachy ass mind numb of a film. Watch The Thing instead.

The Tunnel (2011)
A cool little indie horror flick from Australia, and it's free to watch on torrent sites too. A slow build up but it does pay off. I'd highly recommend Lake Mungo too as it's built on the same premise and it's from the land down under as well.

Severed: Forest of the Dead
Again, another zed movie that had potential but it was squandered by a dull 2nd act and a 3rd act which raised the stakes, but ultimately didn't do diddly squat with it. Also, there is no ending to it, no closure. You can check it out for free as well on the YouTube movies section.

The Troll Hunter
Awesome movie. Very entertaining. The special effects for the trolls are actually pretty decent.
