30 Minutes or Less. Better than the critics say. I don't like Aziz Ansari but he was great in this.

Hanna...the movie was just ok, nice cinematography but the story was nothing extraordinary. What really stood out was the score by Chemical Brothers, it actually improved the film for me, extra points for that!

A Serbian Film, censored for Australia (so eight minutes of footage missing).
I told myself if I were to watch this movie, it would be uncut, somehow, but I gave in to temptation and saw it as part of the Underground Film Festival (mainly to support them, plus to watch two short films that preceded the feature, including a nasty claymation called Gumby's New Tit - sick & awesome).
The version we have here is not bad, as it has the bulk of the story, which in itself is worth seeing, and the footage they kept in will probably disturb the average viewer. That said, I knew I was walking to a censored film, so I was not surprised to feel cushioned during some of the more shocking scenes. I wanted to feel more; I wanted them to have more impact, as that would have made it a richer film.
That being said, there is a scene involving a baby that I'm kind of glad was censored, because if it wasn't, that would have been the most difficult scene (for me anyway) to watch.
Hopefully I will get to see this film uncut someday, and I still will not buy the censored DVD for that reason; but that doesn't stop the film from being watchable and sick on its own merits (a good thing).

The Woman, a cautionary tale of the dangers of misogyny and encroaching civilization told through that tried and true method of gruesome violence and dark humor.
We have the Woman, who lives off the land like a wild animal, and whose main method of communication is threatening snarls that sound like a cross between Gollum and The Exorcist. A family man who, while hunting, spots her bathing in a creek decides to capture her. He takes her home and chains her up, and shows her off to his family (all appropriately bemused), and tells them that they are going to tame her and teach her to be "civilized". His methods of doing so are anything but, and it isn't long before things get nasty. The family itself is an interesting bunch: the two-faced, secretly woman-hating father, the frightened but complicit mother, the teenage son who aspires to be just like dad, and the two daughters, one young and so cute, the other teenage and trying to hide her pregnancy.
The film is bizarre from start to finish, with a fittingly twisted finale. Might be too grisly for some, but if you can sit through it all, it's rewarding.

It was a bit hard to follow, I'm not sure I understood it. But for some reason, it was incredible! I can't really explain. It was just...awesome! Loved the film score, too

I hated that movie, and I typically love Charlie Kaufman, but I feel like he felt like he liked the smell of his own farts throughout this one.

I looked at it more as a "don't be the guy who smells his own farts" type thing. Kinda showing you what not to be like, in a way. Regardless, Jon Brion's soundtrack was pretty awesome.

I really loved that movie. It was fascinating seeing everything they're up against, and how just a taste of music we take for granted meant the world to people who saw the band. Now if only the band was any good...

I'm honestly amazed in what they were able to put together with the very few influences they could get their hands on. Their guitarist and drummer are pretty good. Especially considering how hard it was for them even to practice.

As for new movies I've seen I saw Emperor's New Groove? Was pretty damn funny.

Manchurian Candidate Wasn't bad. The plot moved a little slowly, but the themes in the movie were very good. A lot of questions raised. I need to see the original now.

Yes, really liked Heavy Metal in Baghdad - sad and happy and hopeful at the same time?
Watched Hostel last night. Stupid with a capital S.
Saw War, Inc. last week. Interesting. The story got a little stupid with the lovey stuff, but I thought it was quite clever and over-the-top in a most hilarious way. And John Cusack was pretty great, but he usually is.

Notes on a Scandal Terrific movie with Judi Dench as a teacher who knows something about her colleague. One of her best performances I reckon. It's got Cate Blanchett, Bill Nighy and a few other big names, all of whom stand out.
