I remember when my friends and I were watching tokyo drift stoned off our minds. I couldn't stop bitching about every single thing that was happening and making the other guys laugh their assess off. Of course I didn't realise that the guy who put the movie in really liked it and almost kicked my ass for that. Which I surely would've deserved.

Cowboys and Aliens

This movie is halfway decent, and that's the kindest assessment I can give. The actors work well enough with the material given, and the effects are pretty good. Harrison Ford and Daniel Draig spend most of the film scowling and being badass, which is what you came to see, and they do it well.
In terms of story and direction, that's where you notice a split. On the one hand, you have the gritty western which plays well, despite familiar plot details; still, I could watch the movie based entirely on the human elements. Then you have the aliens, who suddenly remind you this film has aliens just as the western part is getting interesting. The sci-fi elements don't draw you in as much; if anything, that's where it becomes escapism, and your brain isn't really required (that said, there are a few good moments).
The main issue I had with the sci-fi side is that when the action gets heavy, it's like watching a video game, with the "blink-you'll-miss-it" approach; I suppose Jon Favreau decided he liked the approach so much in Iron Man 2, he'd bring it here. By comparison, the western side has a stronger impact, and is what keeps you vested in the characters; there are points where you truly forget the aliens are there, at least until the third act. By then, it's like a cross between a spaghetti western and District 9, and all you can do is accept it.
It's not as terrible as some critics make it out to be, but it's no Oscar winner, either.

Mr. Baseball - Far better than it has any right being. It's a fairly standard sports story starring Tom Selleck as a washed up player who ends up in Japan to try and revitalize his career.

These movies exist all the time, but this one was done particularly well, and really authentic and honest about the Japanese culture without being condescending. In fact, I think it kinda is the same story as the Last Samurai without being pandering and having Caucasian savior complex. Also, they play fairly decent baseball in this one, which is more than I can say for most.

I've actually been watching a string of lesser baseball movies, since though I had seen the obvious greats (The Kevin Costner baseball movies, The Rookie, A League of Their Own, and Major League) I hadn't really seen much of all that's out there.

It's not going to change your life or anything, but if you're looking for a really simple and funny kinda redemption story with fish out of water elements, you could certainly do a whole lot worse.

Not a movie (either of them) but I recently watched The Wire start to finish and I'm nearly halfway through Breaking Bad.

I want to say that The Wire is overrated, and Breaking Bad is so melodramatic and unrealistic that I'm questioning why people compare it to The Sopranos. It certainly doesn't deserve the praise.

Due to inexplicable back pains the last few days I've been pretty much couch-bound. Rewatched Batman Begins + The Dark Knight as well as Kill Bill (both volumes). Very excellent.

Rango

loved it. It's funny and very entertaining and looks absolutely breath taking on Blu-ray. When it comes to animated movies, the Blu-ray format really shows its muscles. Just awesome stuff...

The Big Lebowski (again, heh)

watched it on Blu-ray this time though. I don't need to say anything about the movies anymore as it's a cult classic and just awesome. My favorite movie. But as for the Blu-ray, I think Universal did a good job. The pic is a bit soft but I think that's due to the source material and they did use some DNR but still I think the picture quality was great. I think I'm gonna watch this Blu-ray over and over again for years to come :D

I just wached Spy Kids with the girlfriend after not having seen it since I was a kid. Man, what a good kids movie, they really don't make them like that anymore. Also loved the reference to Machete, another great Robert Rodriguez film.

And on another note, I have decided that I must have a Nicolas Cage movie night. Many laughs will be had.

Captain America Had some negative thoughts about Chris Evans but now I can't thing anyone else for role of good Captain, he pretty much nails it perfectly. Some very cartoonish images here, like giant Hydra tank for example. CA is very old character, created -41 if remember correctly, and somehow they manage to capture that feeling here. Oh, and do stay seated when ending credits start, there is easter egg after them as always with these Avenger movies and also Avengers teaser.
