Really should watch Jacob's Ladder again, great movie.

The Hobbit
Saw this a while ago. Enjoyed it, too much CGI though. It's sad how every single critter, orc and goblin has to be computer-generated and lifeless. One thing I liked especially in LOTR was the use of costumes and prosthetics, how the orcs and goblins were actually "real." And the dwarves in The Hobbit. Out of the thirteen, about four of so looked free of CGI.

Dredd
Awesome! This one just oozed style all the way. I really hope they can make the sequel. One commentary I read pretty much summed of the awesomeness of Dredd: no angsty hero, no mandatory love story, no comic sidekick(s). Unfortunately, I didn't get to see this in the theater, as it had a very limited run - why on earth, I can't help wondering. It should have gotten a much wider release.

I'm seeing The Hobbit tomorrow. I'm hoping it's at least tolerable after all these mixed reviews.

So, I saw The Hobbit.
Compared to the Lord of the Rings movies, this does have the feeling of being lesser sequel. Compared to the book on the other hand, I suppose it was mostly faithful. It did have a few too many characters and scenes which felt like they were placed there to flesh out the film; this is particularly true of the battle scenes.
That said, scenes which were taken from back-story found in The Hobbit and LOTR appendices I accepted.
The CGI was hit and miss, feeling like a video game at times. I'll admit the wargs are a great improvement here, but did the goblins need to look like pudgier, uglier Gollums? Even the orcs didn't have the same life. Still, Gollum was about the same, and arguably creepier than his previous outing (like he's meant to be).

Azog, having a smaller role in the novel, I'll accept as a more fleshed out villain, but it did feel a bit forced. And Thorin should have had a longer beard.

I'm hoping the second part is an improvement. Still not sure why we need a third part, but we'll see.

The new Die Hard is the biggest disappointment from the arts in my life in a long long time.

Sinister. IT would have been excellent if the following had been done:

remove two of the four scenes where walks into his office to find the projector on
show the mother in town so we can see the discrimination she experiences

trim the ending down to just being the daughter chopping off his head, a BRIEF stroll down the blood painted hallway and her drawing inside the box. Half of the scenes in those last 5 minutes worked to the film's detriment.

Looper and Bourne Legacy I guess they are okay... Although I think that Looper deserves second viewing before really solid opinion is formed as I felt that I missed something at some point. As far as Bourne goes, Jeremy Renner does good job as Hawkeye...oops, wait...

Oh god YES!!! My friends and I had so much fun watching Dredd drunk and riffing over it. Best action movie I've seen in years.
