Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

Lately, I was thinking about an interesting collaberation. I know it probably won't ever happen, but I still think it'd be cool.

I think everyone here probably knows who Trent Reznor is. For those that don't, he's the main contributor for the music of Nine Inch Nails. In my opinion, he works in a way similar to Devy's, controlling most of the aspects of the music. And now he's coming out with a new NIN album soon (I think April), which he said it's gonna sound like "A soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist", and that he said he knows some people are gonna hate it, and some people are gonna love it. For some reason, that description makes me think of the Hummer sort of.

So how do you guys think a Devy/Reznor collab would work? What kind of music do you think would be produced?

I'm thinking we'd end up with a little bit of everything. Probably like a progressive industrial metal base, with little sprinkles of ambience and other things.

none at all, because trent and the dev are incomatible. simply because they're both main brains in their own projects. the only way it could work would be that one of them makes a record, and the other one remixes it. or so. or, i could just.... you know.

I agree. I think they both want, or need to have pretty much total control of the music, and if they're going to collaborate, that's not going to work. They'd end up fighting over everything and not be friends.

Or, I could just fuck off ;)

You could...but you have a valid point. However if they were to create something together, it'd probably be something industrial but with all the ambience that Devin puts into his music.

Trent tried to collaborate with Maynard James Keenan of Tool with a project called Tapeworm and it didnt work out very well. The end result being no releases at all. It seems some bands are better off suited with one members vision rather than a collaborative effort

I am pretty sure that Devin had been asked about this in a fan question in a newsletter ages ago. I think he said generally what has been said here, i.e. that it wouldn't work.

Though maybe I am totally making that up. Still, it is definately not the first time this collaboration has been suggested.

I think the reason why most people become independent musicians is because they work better alone.

Like cmon, even when you were/are at school, some group assignments you would rather do on your own? It can be like that with music too

Dev wouldn't even sing someone else's material for Ayreon... according to an interview Dev would only do it if he could write his own vocal parts. Imagine how he'd take to Trent telling him what to do. Shame, really, but understandable.

What about Steve Vai? Or I guess maybe thats why he said that, after that experience :P But his vocals were kick ass for Sex and Religion

I think Devin said something like "I think Steve should have sang some parts himself" or something... not exactly sure what he said.
He may have done Sex & Religion because it was a great opportunity for a break-through!

I would love to see Dev hook up with Chris Goss, producer of Queens of the Stone Age and leader of his own band Masters of Reality. Like DevyMetal, Goss is being credited with creating/pioneering the subgenre or rock coinedMetaldelica. I'm sure I would enjoy a team up with 2 of my favorite producer/musician phenoms.Like ya'll say though Just a dream.

Yea, I know that the collab would pretty much never happen, but that's not really what I was trying to focus on. :P

I was trying to get what you guys thought the music would end up sounding like?

I have been keeping my fingers crossed for a Dev + Mike Patton project for years now.
